Peanuts are the new black

Alex lost his heart to a peanut on one of our antique store visits a few months ago. I think it reminds him of his years at Kraft, where Planter's was one of their brands. I'll admit it. This dish is fun. We took it home.

I googled our peanut and found similar F.B. Rogers silver-plated candy dishes on eBay for $15-$30. Some sellers say they're from the 40s, some the 60s.

Yesterday a new CB2 catalog came. Behold!

Peanuts! Maybe they'll become the new owl, or the new antler, or the new mustache.

The best thing about the catalog, though, was the rooms. Look— dark woodwork plus modern furnishings. It is VERY hard to find inspiring examples of Victorian homes that still have dark trim and that aren't full of really traditional furniture. If they have modern furniture, the woodwork has nearly always been painted white.

I'm saving this catalog for inspiration.

P.S. This post was not sponsored by CB2 or Kraft Foods or the American Peanut Shellers Association.

P.P.S. Saying something is "the new black" is the new black, as you've probably noticed. I love it when it doesn't make any sense. Here's an interesting article about this cliché.

I wonder how many other nut jokes are going to appear in the comments.

I have one of those dishes! It was in my grandfather's home filled with candy for most of my growing up. There's a Peanut Festival in his hometown, Dothan, AL, every year!

No nutty jokes here! Just congratulations on having your style recognized by this purveyor of fine goods! Great praise indeed ... for them ... for following your lead!

I bought one of those dishes for my father in law for Christmas a few years back! He's incredibly serious about his boiled peanut methodology, and loves that little nut case. Hahaa.

I'm suspecting US peanut association made you post this:) It looks so functional i loved it. Looks like a peanut and i could put some jewellery in it? Sold.

My grandparents have this peanut shaped jar... With a squirrel on top :P

Their jar is mostly kitsch, but I can't help myself, I really like it! I've even asked them to be the one to inherit the nut jar haha

I guess you're right, peanuts must be very "tendance" :)

I also have a "new" old house with dark wood trim! And I have a mix of furniture styles too! Though mine is Tudor revival so my leaded glass isn't as fancy.
I'm not sure if you're a fan of Lonny Magazine but they have a link to an article with a few pics of natural trim and modern furniture on their homepage right now (second slide I think, about the art expert).

Happy you found some inspiration! I am so bored of white trim. Seems like so many home design bloggers are doing white trim/white walls modern decor these days. Never really was my style, but it's boring to see it over and over again. I love all the color and warm your new place has already! I'm so glad you decided to keep your trim it's original color. :)

I love CB2! So much inspiration in that store. My boyfriend and I recently moved and just fell in love with their dining table (which you can see in my latest blog post/home tour). Now to find more wall décor inspiration!

I love the peanut box!

So we should jump on the nut wagon now? Which is a phrase that won't take on... I hope.

Your peanut container is fantastic. You were smart to shell out the money for it.

NICE.

I LOVE BOTH OF THOSE PEANUT BOXES and must have a silver *and* a white!

And I guess we should say "peanuts are the new antlers" (instead of 'the new black'). I actually hate antlers and owls AND mustaches, so it's about time.

Jess, you are so creative, and I love your keen eye for design/fashion. It is inspiring to read your observations, seeing how God has gifted you with these insights and the ability to put them forth for readers in a clever, understandable manner. Keep it up, Jess!

(Yes, as you can see, I'm playing some blog catch up.)
