Printable calling card freebie | How About Orange

Printable calling card freebie

Just for fun I've made you a template for a personal calling card. Apparently social calling cards are making a comeback, so you might want to print up a few to hand out at parties, moms' play groups, to new neighbors, or tuck them into your Christmas cards if you've updated your contact info.

In case you don't like orange because there's something wrong with you, there are two other colors to choose from.

Download orange cards, blue cards, or burgundy cards.

Each design is a PDF file with editable fields for typing. After saving the file to your computer, open the PDF in Adobe Reader (free right here if you don't already have it), type in your information, and print at 100% on a sheet of white cardstock. Trim with an X-acto knife or scissors, using the crop marks as guides. The font used in the name field is Euphorigenic, a free download at MyFonts.com. If you don't feel like going to the trouble of fetching it and installing it on your machine, your computer will substitute a font that might be tolerable to you.

(These cards are for personal use only; please don't try to sell the design, decorate your website with it, etc.) Enjoy!

Thanks so much for the freebie. This is great!

P.S. I think there might be something wrong with the orange download.

I have to tell you that before I started reading your blog I thought that orange was just an OK colour, but I love it more every day now...thank you (I know, you probably thought there was something wrong with me before reading your blog!)

Did you know Orange is the color of friendship?...you probably did - lol

Great cards, so happy I stumbled onto you via Twitter!

Love the cards

LOL! Anita Cardnow :)

These are great. I just printed mine out (in orange - it's working fine for me).

Thank you!

Jessica Jones said...

Allison, can you be more specific? I tested it after reading your comment and it worked for me. Perhaps you need to wait a bit longer; it's a 380 kb file, so might take a few seconds to download.

Jessica Jones said...

Admitted Fabricaholic, I did not know that! But maybe I intuited it. :)

These are fantastic! Thanks for another cool printable. I love 'em. (in all colors!)

I tried the orange card and I typed my name and it's invisible. The phone number & email show up fine though.

Thanks for making these. I love them!

Hi, another Jessica here. Long-time lurker. Had to stop in to say a big thank you for this download. I love it. I'm loving orange, too; seems like it is less and less a bold color choice as I get older - or maybe I'm just bolder. Haha. My little girl's (1 yo tomorrow!) nursery is in orange and turquoise. Turned out great and suits her so well.

Jessica Jones said...

Gina, that's interesting. I tested the PDFs on both a Mac and a PC without the font Euphorigenic installed, and both computers substituted a similar font so the name still showed up when saved and printed.

You're saying it won't show up on your screen at all, even if you start typing there?

I'd suggest downloading and installing the free font and seeing if that helps.

By the way, MyFonts.com is a great source of free fonts; just type "free" in the search box. It's also where I buy commercial fonts for projects.

they are all georgeous, but i am with you, i love the orange one best. good idea!

Thank you for these beautiful cards! I love them. Sadly, the orange cards (and purple, but not blue) have little black squares with plus signs that I can't get rid of and they show up on the printed version, too. Maybe I'm just not smart enough, computer-wise, but I really love the orange ones and don't want to settle for the blue ones because of the silly little plus sign. Any idea what's going on or how to fix it?

"...in case you don't like orange because there's something wrong with you..." HA!!! omg, you are too funny!

Love the orange! Thanks so much!

Jessica Jones said...

jengerbread, I think I figured out what was happening with the black pluses. If you download the PDFs again, I think they'll be okay.

Tricia said...

Jess - Tested - that solved it. Sorry for my previous long-winded comment then!

Jessica Jones said...

Tricia, I totally appreciate your tips! So these new links worked then? Thanks for testing!

Tricia said...

Yep - all three!

Those darn writable forms - they are truly fabulous and evil. Seriously.

jengerbread said...

All better now. Thank you!

Jessica Jones said...

YES. Finicky. What looks great in Acrobat Professional might suddenly become glitchy when Extending Features in Reader. I swear I tested it, too. Peculiar.

Tricia and Jengerbread, thanks for your comments and hanging out with me on a Friday night. Have a good weekend!

thank you ;-)

Gina said...

Jess, Yes, exactly what you said, I type my name in and nothing appears. I did download the font first before I started. The only thing that might be different about my computer set up is that I hardly ever update my software. But it's a pretty new computer (1 year).

Elsa said...

so very nice of you and you are too funny! I feel the same about orange as you ... love it and almost everything I make has a little (mostly a lot!) in it ...

Gina, I updated the links last night so the files are new. Does it work now?

Coffeebean's Dailies said...

Hi. I printed mine and they came out so small I can't read them!? I also got the black lines but I thought those were cutting marks? I will download the new link and see what happens! thanks!

Coffeebean's Dailies said...

ok. no changes. shall i take a pic and send it to you on how it is printing out? how big are the cards supposed to be? its printing on the bottom half of the paper horizontally???? help!!

plaisanter said...

Excellent design and the font is a great choice. Boy, you are GOOD. Thank you! I'm going to be spreading orange (and friendship) like mad!!

Jessica Jones said...

Alia, are you opening the file and printing from Adobe Reader? It's a free download right here. You can also print from Acrobat Professional if you have it.

-Make sure your Page Setup settings are for portrait (vertical) printing, not landscape.

-Check to see that the scale is set at 100%, with no shrink or reduce option turned on.

The cards are standard business card size, 3.5" x 2" and should print on a vertical 8.5" x 11" page. There are thin black crop marks that indicate where to trim out the cards. Hope that helps!

Alia, great! Glad to hear it.

Allison Fouse said...

Hi Jess,
For me, while the pink and blue ones load almost instantly, the orange one stays blank. Evidently, it's just me with this problem. I know you stated that the links are new, and I have tried hitting the refresh button to no avail. Oh well.

Problem solved.

How in the world do you make those editable fields in a pdf? I have been trying to figure that out for some address labels I designed and wanted to just open them in Acrobat to type the addresses in, I can't find out by google search either. Great cards btw! Love the orange!
-Erin

Jessica Jones said...

Erin, this should help. Then to make sure people can open your file in Reader and save the text they input, you'll need to change a setting. Go to the Advanced menu and choose "Extend Features In Adobe Reader." Good luck!

Anonymous said...

Thank you sooo much! I will try it!
-Erin

Unknown said...

Cool cards. But how do I fill out the form? I've opened the document in Adobe Reader, but can't work out how to fill it in with my details. Do I need to change my settings? (I'm on a Mac)

Jessica Jones said...

Hi Christine,

In Reader, highlight the existing text with your cursor and start typing over it.

Mary T-Allen said...

Hi Jessica,

Longtime lurker, first-time commenter...I love your blog and download almost everything you suggest. Love it! I printed the orange and burgundy cards successfully, but I am still getting the black plus signs on the blue file. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks again for such a great blog!

Lisa said...

Thank you, these are wonderful!

Cinquefoil said...

Lovely! But I must be doing something wrong here as I can fill in the name but as soon as I try to move onto the e-mail line the name that I just filled in turns into HTML-code? Trying to fix it but as am no computer wizard all help would be much appreciated. :)

Sally @ Dont Wake the Kids said...

Pam said...

Jessica...the calling cards are adorable. I was hoping to print them onto sheets of blank business cards. My business cards are in sheets of ten and the calling cards print out a quantity of eight. That would be okay with me, however, the cards do not line up with the perforated business card blanks on the sheet. Do you know an easy fix for this or some way I can get the calling cards to print out correctly? I'm not a big computer person but do know how to do some things. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks for sharing!

Pam
hellopf@yahoo.com

Jessica Jones said...

Hi Pam,

I would have to redo the files according to where the perforations are on your cardstock, and I'm afraid I don't have extra time to make you a customized file. You might have to use a ruler and an Xacto knife to cut them out; sorry!

D @ Your Life Channel said...

Wow what a fabulous website. Thanks so much for this piece of loveliness.

Anonymous said...

Hey - love the cards - but my photoshop is asking for a permissions password when I try to open the file? Please help! Thanks, Lyndal.

Jessica Jones said...

Hi Lyndal,

Right; that's so people don't take the artwork and use it for themselves in other projects. To be able to edit the text, open the file in Adobe Reader (it's free and you probably have it) or Adobe Acrobat instead.

Jackie S. said...

These are so awesome & just what i was looking for for my kids as "playdate cards".
I found them thru tip junkie!
BUTTT... there is a password protect on them.
How do we obtain the password for them?
Thanks
sam

sam & sarah said...

oh, never mind!
i see how it works now!!
can't wait to print some!
=)
sam

Jessica Jones said...

Hey Sam, you won't need the password to open the cards in Adobe Reader (free software your computer likely has) or Adobe Acrobat. You'll need to open the files in one of those to be able to edit the text.

The password is there to keep people from opening the file in Illustrator, Photoshop, or something else and lifting out the graphics to use for diabolical commercial purposes.

Hi! That would require setting up a new PDF page with fields for typing, if I understand what you're asking.
