2014 printable Oscar bingo and ballot

2016 Oscar Bingo game

[To join the bingo mailing list for future years, sign up here].

My 2014 Oscar ballot and bingo game are done! Get set to enjoy Sunday's Academy Awards with friends. It doesn't matter if they watch movies or know who the actors are; anyone can play bingo and it's a good excuse for a party.

Download the Oscar ballot PDF

Save the PDFs to your computer, open them in Adobe Reader, and print.

To use the ballot: print one for each guest and have them mark their predictions before the show starts. The person with the most correct guesses wins.

To use the bingo cards: 20 different game cards are included in the PDF. Print out the number of pages you need for your guests. Then fan out the sheets, close your eyes, wave your hands over them, and put your finger on a card. This one is meant to be yours. Your party guests can fight over the rest of the sheets, but they're not going to win. You are. As you all watch the telecast, the first person to mark off five squares in a line wins. It could be a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line. (This year I removed the center "free" space to make you work a little harder.)

Movie theater gift cards, boxes of popcorn, candy, or little Oscar statuettes from a party store make good prizes.

Has anybody tried to play with friends long distance? You could each claim a page number to print out and then text or tweet each other when you get a bingo.

Like every year, a disclaimer: Maybe someone will get a bingo ten minutes into the telecast, or maybe your group won't have a winner at all because my psychic powers have failed this year. Best of luck!

P.S. If you like Oscar bingo, you might also like my Christmas Hallmark Movie Bingo.

Free printable Christmas gift tags

Today I'm sharing some free, printable holiday gift tags you can download. Help yourself to these typographic designs.

I had fun trying out some Avery label stock the company sent over. I've always thought of Avery products as being for business use, but their stickers and tags can make some nifty holiday gift embellishments.

To make these tags, print the PDF at 100% size onto Avery 22802 Printable Tags with Strings paper.

The tags are perforated, so just fold the paper back and forth a couple times along the edges of the tags to break them off. The edges turn out neat and clean.

Then use the supplied strings with clasps that come in the package, or add your own pretty ribbon or twine to attach the tags to wrapped gifts, wine bottles, or the kittens you're giving all your friends this Christmas.

Download the PDF for Avery perforated tags here.
Download the PDF for printing on plain cardstock here (then cut out with a scissors and punch a hole in each tag).

(This post was made possible by free stuff from Avery. Thanks, Avery!)

Free printable donut birthday card

This weekend I wandered around Cincinnati and had my first donut from Holtman's. It was fantastic. Today I spotted this very adorable donut balloon project at Studio DIY.

So I was inspired to craft a tasty, donut-themed printable. You could attach this birthday card to a box of donuts or mail a gift card along with it. Or pair it with mini donut sugar cookies using Bakerella's recipe, as a commenter has suggested.

Download the free PDF here.

Free printable: city stationery set

While digging through folders on my computer, I found this city design from awhile back. It's got squirrels, pigeons, cars, clouds, and buildings. (Items not to scale! Those would be some terrifying squirrels.) I adapted it into a printable freebie just for fun: a sheet of notepaper and a matching envelope.

Download the printable stationery here. Then open the two-page PDF and print out the page(s) you need. For personal use only.

Printable recipe cards from Design Eat Repeat

I have half a dozen handwritten recipe cards I've collected over the years. They're all from dear friends, and I love seeing their handwriting every time I make their tasty dish. I think of them affectionately. It's so much better than a page printed off the internet or a recipe displayed on a screen. If you want someone to think of you fondly years from now, write out that recipe by hand! These cute, free printable recipe cards from Design Eat Repeat will help you out.

Printable Father's Day bottle tags

I was admiring the patterns on Penguin Books scores from 1949 and decided to design a Father's Day printable in a similar style. Download, print, and cut out these bottle tags, then hang them on your pop's favorite pop. Or his favorite whiskey, or wine, or lemonade. Sign your name on the tag or leave it blank if your handwriting is too horrendous.

Download the PDF here.

Then get matching greeting cards right here.

Printable gift wrap and tags

Find cute, summery gift tags and matching wrapping paper to download and print from Lia Griffith. If you give presents wrapped with these designs, I bet you'll gain a reputation for being creative and thoughtful. Presentation always wins you big points! Not that gift-giving is about you, of course. It's about making someone feel special. But if they want to conclude you're amazing, let's not stop them.

Framed origami animals

I amused myself the other day by making some little origami foxes using this diagram by Mark Leonard, and a whale using these traditional instructions. (The website where I found the fox is apparently no longer active or I'd link to it.)

I thought maybe these animals need a place to live, so I made them each a habitat.

You can download and print these backgrounds, then glue your own origami animals onto them if you like. Framed, they'd be cute in a kid's room.

Download the woods.
Download the sea.

Print out the sheets and leave them 8 1/2" x 11" or trim them a bit to 8" x 10", a more common frame size. The animals were made from 6" standard-size origami paper. A full square for the whale and a half sheet for each fox. You could also shrink everything to mini size and make some little cards if you have nimble fingers.

Printable Mother's Day card

Mother's Day is coming up, so I made a little freebie you can download and print for your mum. It's a greeting card that fits in a standard A2 envelope. (4.25" x 5.5" after folding.) And it won't use up much of your ink cartridge. You could output this on linen-textured cardstock to make it really nice, and pair it with a red or green envelope. And a pie.

Download the card right here.

Build your own paper globe

I just came across Joachim Robert's Le Paper Globe, a free papercraft model you can build. Download and print the pieces in English or French, A4 or letter size. Click through the step-by-step assembly instructions on the website for how to construct this terrestrial ball.

The PDF is editable in Adobe Illustrator, so feel free to make any customizations you like. See globes made by others on Le Paper Globe's Facebook page. Globes shown here are by An-Magritt Moen, Georgia Polo, and A Merry Mishap.

DIY printable neon stationery set

Neon is a trend that's still going strong. If it's important that your life have more of it, consider printing your own neon DIY stationery set with this downloadable freebie. April is National Card and Letter Writing month, so let's send some mail!

I've designed notepaper and a matching envelope in two patterns: scallops and stripes. They turned out a bit Kate Spade-y, no? You can mix them or match them.

I printed the designs on sheets from a pack of Astrobright Neon paper I bought at Office Max. It's a common brand available at most office stores. But if neon scalds your eyeballs or reminds you too painfully of junior high, use any paper you like. Brown kraft paper would be cool, too.

Download the free, printable PDF right here.

The document has four pages; print out the pages you need at 100%.

Trim out the notepaper sheets.

Cut out the envelope templates, score along the fold lines, and fold the flaps inward. Secure them with a glue stick.

Mail a note to a buddy. Or print up sets of these, tie them with black ribbon or neon twine (I spotted some at Paper Source the other day) and give them as small gifts or party favors.
