Good news: no serial killers.
Last night was the little gathering of blog readers at my house. There were nine guests, and each person turned out to be very, very wonderful. A large knife was brandished at one point, but it was only used for cutting cake. Whew. We all managed to fit at my long dining room table and ate desserts, made some paper ornaments, and compared thumb flexibility. One person had heard a theory that the further your thumb bends backwards, the more artistic you are. I'm not sure we arrived at any conclusions, but we had a good time. Guys, thanks so much for coming over!

The red and white paper flower ornaments on the table look just like giant peppermint candies. Cute!
my thumbs are super bent, almost a right angle, but i'm only somewhat, not super artistic.
Never heard that one before, but mine bends back loads and my two kids' thumbs go even further. We're quite a creative bunch then?!! Relieved there were no serial killers......
My thumbs bend back to right angles, too. I guess I haven't realized my full potential yet. ;-)
And how far do YOURS go back, Jess?
Mum
Not quite a right angle, but close. I must have your thumbs.
How wonderful!
haha i never heard that it meant you were creative.. my dad always said i have "hitch hiker thumbs" because i can bend them back at a 90 degree angle. haha he said thumbs like that are great for hitch hiking!
Thanks again for having us over! It was lovely to meet you and your friends in person... and now I have some decorations for my home! :)
It was so sweet of you to invite us to your beautiful home! It was nice meeting you, and everyone else, too.
:D
It looked like a fun gathering!
I would love to partake in a future one (especially if there's a craft project involved)
Oh, wow, it looked like good fun. I'm so sorry that I couldn't come, but I'm glad that I didn't attempt it and get the rest of you sick. I would love to meet you still, if you end up having another party. Thanks, again, Jess!
I'm very glad to hear that there were no serial killers involved. Hopefully, you'll be willing to organize a gathering like this again.
I'm jealous! I want to go next time. Looks like you had fun.
I'm sorry I don't live in Chicago! That's sounds like too much fun. Of course I didn't have drive through the freezing snow to get there though :). I'll keep my palm trees.
Cute party idea.
Actually, it's an enzyme. If you can bend your thumb back, you have an enzyme that allows you to do that, which I lack. Some useless cocktail serving material I learned in college. I'm hopelessly addicted to your site and just bought something pretty in orange, the first for me if you don't count college football jersey (War Eagle!). Have a wonderful Holiday!
funny theory-mine bends back to a right angle too. my brothers used to tell me i was a witch-i wasn't too happy with that!! thanks for sharing-looks like y'all had so much fun!
Looks like you all had fun! I still wish I could have come, it would be so fun to just randomly go to something like your party and meet new fun people and YOU!
What a relief, I think we were all worried about you fighting off serial killers!
I so enjoy your sense of humor and look forward to reading your posts. Thanks for sharing!
BTW, my thumb doesn't seem to bend -- OH NO!
Nah, my thumbs aren't bendy, but I can draw better than my in-law's who have bendy thumbs. They are a weird loose-jointed lot, who enjoy cracking knuckles on other people...
Looks like fun! The bendy thumb thing is called "hitchhiker's thumb" as someone above mentioned, and it's a genetic thing - you inherit the amount of bendiness. It's one of a bunch of fun inherited things (as opposed to your mother's thighs) that are fun to compare amongst friends :) Other things are being able to roll your tongue and whether you can taste...(some chemical I forget now) which tends to put you off things like broccoli, cabbage and coffee.
Ahem. One must be careful mentioning Jess's mother's thighs. Here, at least. ;-)
Oh blush! It was "your" in the generic sense although frankly I was thinking about MY mother's! (I'm safe there, she doesn't read blogs) I shall never mention mother's thighs online again, just in case though :D
Thanks again for having us over. It was loads of fun!
my thumb bend back really far and i like to think im artistic! maybe shes right :)
oh! this sounded fun! I am glad I found your blog:)You can count me as 6,001 readers.
I wish I could have come too. Live too far away. Rats! :D
My thumbs bend back really far, but I don't consider myself very artistic (although I would love to be, so...). It is a dominate genetic trait, like dimples (and I have a lot of very artistic siblings).
