My fabric is finished!
I'm thrilled to pieces to reveal my freshly printed fabric collection, Modern Flora, created for J. Caroline Designs. Remember that sneak peek from ages ago? It has finally materialized! I just returned from the print run in Massachusetts.
Sprig, Peapod, and Leaflet are printed on 54" wide 7 oz. canvas, perfect for home dec projects like cushions, bags, upholstery, shower curtains, you name it. Herb is printed on a 54" wide mid-weight cotton sheeting, good for linings and projects where you'd like a lighter weight fabric.
How did this collaboration with J. Caroline Designs come about, you ask? Caroline stumbled upon my blog, decided to take a crazy chance, and hired a girl who had never designed fabric before. In other words, we met online and it was a match made in heaven. Countless hysterically funny emails and one face-to-face meeting took place over the course of several months, and here's the result.
The finished product should arrive in Caroline's store, J. Caroline Creative, in 10-14 days. Get ready!

How exciting! Congratulations! Just love your designs.
I see a few bags in this fabrics' future. And I'm going to love carrying them!
Beautiful! Congragulations, I can't wait to get my hands on some of it!
That's amazing! You should be very proud of yourself!! I've been a lurker on your blog for a while now, but this post led me to finally post a comment.

They are lovely, congratulations!!
Thanks, guys. I'm pretty excited. Never done anything like this before! Firsts are always very thrilling.
E&F, thanks for saying hello!

How totally stinking cool! I too see some bags in my future. Maybe a shower curtain and a whole new spring bathroom, hmm??? Fun fun fun all around! (Though I'd still be on the bandwagon if you ever decided to make patterned papers, too.)
CONGRATS!
this is jaw-droppingly lovely stuff. Congratulations. Green is my thing kinda like orange is yours, so I'm really loving the greens you've chosen! And I just got a sewing machine for Christmas…how handy!
Needless to say, Mum is VERY PROUD of you!!
BEAUTIFUL!!! Congrats -- you do such wonderful things!
This is FANTASTIC! I was just complaining to someone that it was hard to find cute printed canvas!
Wow! Congrats! That's awesome. Your patterns are really cute!
That is fantastic! Congratulations. How cute would that be for little zipper bags for purses. I am already thinking of what I could make!

It's gorgeous. I can't wait to order some. Like someone else said, green is my color, too. I will be covering my favorite chair in Sprig. Love it.
Fabulous - I like these versions even better than the earlier ones you showed us. Is there any chance they might appear in other colourways? Hot pink and orange, perhaps?
Wow. Just wow. That's so exciting!!! And love the prints. I'm gonna by me some...
so cute! can't wait to make some pillows for the baby room with them.
I must defer to Caroline on that one. But I'd say there's a good chance of more colorways to come, if these start selling successfully.
Oh they're beautiful! I'm so happy for you! :) I'll definitely be buying some.
awh thats great - beautiful fabrics, lovely colours. Well done, must be so exciting

They are GORGEOUS, so my style and color. I'm going to have to add a sewing machine to the list of things I must master.

I love your designs! Congratulations! But where is the orange?
They're all so pretty! Congratulations! :-)
PS. When I was a child, the kitchen table at home was always covered with oil cloth in cheerful patterns. These designs would suit that kind of thing so well. Also you can make tote bags with oil cloth.
Peapod - I love it!
Jess, I'm so happy and proud of you, because I believe you can change your country's fabric scene! It is amazing that the girl who didn't like on-line relationship before started some business like this:)
I lvoe them, Jessica! How great those patterns are. And that they are on canvas, all the better!
You're right, Megumi... and to think she used to HATE computers! ;-)
Congrats! My wife just started making purses with her new sewing machine. Great timing! Love your fabric!
Wow, those are all beautiful! I love them.
aak! This is sooooo cool! ( The fabric and the serendipitous blog stumbling)
Love it. Congrats!
Wow! Congratulations! Can't wait to buy these. I am seeing some great bags from them.
Now that you have that under your belt, I would love to see some great patterns in your "signature" color. I would love to see the pod pattern that you have in the wallpaper.
Again, congrats!
Simply fabulous...congratulations! I've looked at the pics on the JC blog (Megan put me onto that), so I've gotten a glimpse into the fabric-making process, too. And green is MY favorite color!
These are so cute. Congrats!

I need to pull out the sewing machine and dust it off. I'm not the greatest seamstress, but oh would I love to make something with that fabric!
Beautiful! Congratulations!
Serious congratulations are in order! I LOVE the sprig print!

Laura
Congratulations! They look wonderful!
These are fabulous!
The colors are very fresh and up-to-date; and I would know :-)
The patterns are classic yet since the current trend is towards prints with leaf motifs rather than floral it seems your fabric has "best sellers" potential.
Well done!
I am excited for you! The designs are beautiful!!
those look fabulous! congratulations, jess!
Oh my gosh, you guys! I can't believe how many comments there are here! This is SUCH a confidence booster, since of course we worry a little... what if nobody wants it? What if it doesn't sell? What if Caroline and I are the only two people in the world who like it? :) Kate Smith, your words are music to my ears. Thanks!
Jaw-dropping gorgeous! Congratulations - what an accomplishment! I can't wait to get my hands on some of it!
I love your blog, and now I love your fabric. I hope they're doing a large first run. Your readers are forming a long line to buy it. I admire your talent.

You're the third person I've seen online within the past week or so that has designed some awesome fabric. It's so inspiring. I want to get some of my designs on fabric but haven't a clue where to begin looking for a printer (or the cost of it). Time to research!
I can totally envision some of your fabric on the yoga mat bags that I make... it's so cheerful. I think it will sell with no problem... good luck!! :)
I'm glad you were encouraged by my comments. They are well deserved.
I thought it might be fun to share your latest creations with my readers so -- ta-dah!-- "How About Orange..." is now the featured blog on the front page of our lifestyle blog www.LiveInFullColor.com
Check it out and stay tuned this week to see more on the trends for green and blue.
Gorgeous! I LOVE them so much! Congratulations!
Hi Jessica, Congratulations! Great work! I love your blog and its become a habit to read your blog everyday!
The fabric designs are very vibrant and beautiful...but am waiting for your fabric design in the mighty orange color!! Keep up the great work!
Congrats! I just might have to buy some of that pea pod fabric though. Oh and yes I want some in orange too. Why not do your holiday card design and that cool design you painted on your curtains? Those two would be so lovely.
They look spectacular! Well done. Hope this leads to more fabric for you. Perhaps something Orange!
That is so awesome. Congrats. I can't wait to get my hands on it!
Beautiful! I <3 Sprig!
Kate, thanks for featuring HAO!
JE, see you Monday. :)
Everybody who wants orange: I would love to. I'm not sure many people actually decorate with orange, so I played it safer with greens and blues this time (the favorite color of the greatest number of people is blue, all surveys say.) But of course I would love to do orange!
Holy Shit! I am a long time J.Caroline shopper - this is wonderful! I didn't realize ANY of the textile mills were still up and running out here.
I will be ordering, for SURE!
Congratulations!
What a fun project! Love your designs. I'm sure they'll be a hit!
Let me tell you for the 125th time here that your faric is fabulous!! I really love it!

Beautiful fabric...can't wait to see what people do with it!
Congratulations! It's exciting for us as well! I hope I'll be able to find them in the UK!
That is so exciting for you! Fabric design always seemed so mysterious. But it is nice to see all of these talented bloggers (like yourself) creating their own unique designs, and sharing the process with their readers. Thanks! And by the way, I just painted my family room orange, so you should stop by and take a look!
woo hoo! congratu-ma-lations!
Congratulations! The fabric is absolutely beautiful. I hope I can get some here in Canada some day. Is J. Caroline online?
Yep. The link is at the end of the post. I'll give it again when the fabric becomes available.
Hi Jess,
Um, I'm comment #132, I think. If that's any indication, I'm guessing people will love your fabrics :)
Anyway, Lost in Translation. It definitely was perfect to watch at night before bed - we did both times we watched it. I think it really conveyed the whole being out of sync in another country pretty well. I think I'm still processing it...
HOW FANTASTIC! good for you and the very best wishes for your venture. very very exciting.
i enjoyed my visit today and will be heading over to print out a 2008 calendar on your recommendation. thanks!
This is great! My husband and I would like to see it in boxers. And pajama pants. And small curtains. And our shower curtain. And anything else we can think of - nice work!

Remember when you covered a canvas with fabric? That's exactly what I'm going to do with your gorgeous fabric for my dining room! Only problem is - I'm on the wrong side of the Atlantic so I'm gonna have to wait even longer!
How Exciting and I love the fabric!! Wow!
I, for one, am not at all surprised. Well done!

Flib, she does indeed ship to the UK.
Big, big congratulations!!!
Just gorgeous! I love it.
Yay for you!! This has got to be SO exciting. I wish you much success!
oooh I really really want some, but just looked and if I understood it correctly, shipping internationally is about $40 + insurance
:-(
that's a LOT! I buy fabric from the US all the time and it's never even been close to that.
Is there some other way we can get hold of it in the UK? puleeeeez?
Sallyent and everyone else interested in international shipping: J. Caroline Creative tries to find the lowest possible international rate for shipping, and you get charged exactly what they get charged. If you email her your address and how many yards you want, she can let you know an exact price instead of the $40 estimate. I know Caroline wants to help as many customers as possible, and she wants to give you the best rate.
I know from experience that the US postal service rates for shipping a package overseas STARTS at $16. I can't tell you how many times I've mailed something that cost me $8 but the shipping was $20. It's horrible. The letter rate is less, of course, but fabric generally doesn't fit into a commercial business envelope. Unless it's a MICROfiber. Just kidding.
I've been enjoying reading your blog - very inspiring! And these fabrics are just fantastic!!! I'm a graphic designer and self confessed fabric junkie and it would be my dream to be allowed to design fabric patterns... oh well, I can dream! ;)
Check out Perdoozy's apron made from your fabric: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=9837630
Isn't it great?!
It's so great! That's a hot little number.
oh my how gorgeous, I just love it! I'm off to order some!
Jessica, I fell in love with your fabric collection the first time I saw it! It totally fits my textile/jewelry "taste" of "modern lines inspired by organics". Well done!
I recently bought three of them (all but the all-blue one), and today I covered my dining room chairs... half with the pea pods, and half with the circles on blue. I'm going to use the ferny one to make curtains for the dining room, and I know it will look fantastic thanks to you! I'm really thrilled that your designs will finally be in my home, so I can enjoy them every day.
I hope you continue to design textiles... I'm sure I'll be your biggest fan. :)
(PS Watch my blog for photos of the chairs and dining room as I finish! ... we have to wait for our new dining room table to come too.)
Wow, thank you! I can't wait to see!
I have photos of my chairs in my blog now (http://www.joyfulabode.com/ ) and today we got our new table, so I just have to make the curtains and then photos of the almost-final setup will go up (I still want to do some coordinating art too).
I love the graphic element in your designs, Jessica! I discovered a store in Mpls. that sells the peapod fabric... it really stood out while browsing thru the many bolts of fabric. I can't wait to make a tote bag out of it (and I'm sure to rake in some compliments with the beautiful, bright colors).
i love the Leaflet and the herb so much.
i think u are amazing!
