Make envelopes out of patterned paper
Here's a blank envelope template you can download. (Either print it on plain cardstock to cut out as a template for tracing around, or print it directly on the back of your patterned paper like I did here). Of course, you can also take apart any envelope, flatten it out, and use that as a template, too.
This envelope, after folding, is 5.75 x 4.5 inches. It holds a 5.5 x 4.25 enclosure (a quarter of a letter-sized sheet).

My friend in Arizona mailed the paper to me as part of a present, so I don't know where it's from! It was a 12" square sheet, like scrapbookers use.
And I've added the envelope dimensions to the post.

Thanks for making these available. They are wonderful! I am going to print one out and use it. This is a wonderful idea. I used to do something similar back in the olden days but we only used magazine pages to make the envelopes.... and they were not really sturdy enough. I could make up a batch of these and give them as a gift set...

Thank you so much for this! My kids got sick and I couldn't go out and buy the pretty envelope I wanted for our cash gift. This was PERFECT!
I feel that handmade, with a few 'flaws' like hand scissor-cut almost-perfect edges make a more 'personal' feel. This was extremely important because a few days ago, a dear friend of mine, her name is Rebecca, her dog died. She is 11 years old, and I wanted to make her something special, so I printed this template onto my scrapbook paper and then cut it out. I made a card for the inside, too. This was a great way for me to show how much I really did care, as they had this dog for 14 years, and she is only 11. I really encourage this because it can be made out of anything, possibly even fabric. A good template, Jess, I love it!

Thanks. I make a lot of pressed flower cards using stock from the craft stores. Now I can make 2 cards from a letter size page of card stock and follow your directions to make an envelope.

I made a card as a 'Thank You' to the mailman, but needed an envelope.
