Jonathan Adler and Pantone at JCPenney

JCPenney is getting cool. They've got Jonathan Adler! I came across this announcement and got excited, then found this bedding on the website by Googling. Google sent me to the Happy Chic Katie duvet set and I starting clicking on related items. Ironically, typing "Jonathan Adler" into the search box on JCP's home page didn't yield any product results.

I'm guessing more items from Jonathan Adler's budget-friendly Happy Chic collection will appear online soon.

JCP also has Pantone products (thanks for the tip, Courtney). As well as collections from Michael Graves and Bodum, the Danish design firm. As part of a desperately-needed effort to reinvent themselves, JCP plans to open a collection of affordable designer shops and home goods boutiques inside their stores. Has anybody spotted these collections in their local JCPenney?

I haven't been to one since Christmas, where I saw those dog collars with ribbons I designed and picked up a really cute $15 blouse.

Wow. I love that bedding setup. He makes such great designs. I think I may have to spend some time wandering in JCP soon. :)

My local JCPenney doesn't have ANYTHING in it at all! ;(

Does that mean it closed?

No, it means there isn't one. Well, there WAS one many, many years ago. Yeah, that one closed. If you're talking about the 40-miles-away one, as far as I know, it's still open. But I don't consider that "local". ;)

Yeah, that one. To you it's local. :)

So you're saying I have a "local" fabric store, too?! Uh uh. No way. To YOU they may be local to me, but to me they're not!

Help us, beloved fans! Is 40 miles away "local" when my nearest town is 7 miles away??? ;)

Hey, my local JCP is 45 minutes away, too. Just because I have to drive through traffic and buildings to get there, is that any different?

Your conversation with Grandma G is killing me...I love it! I never go to JCP because the closest one to me is in an icky shopping center, but when I go downstate to visit my mom, her "local store" (also about 40 miles away from her home) is nice. They've created such a debacle with their no sales/no coupons/trying-to-be-fancy marketing that I'm not sure even Jonathan Adler can save them ;) I sure hope so though!

I haven't been to a JCP lately, but did notice their recent weekly flyers look like they could be from Target. They are obviously trying!

I hope so, too! They've got the guy who did Apple's retail stores at the helm now, so I'm confident it can work... if they don't go bankrupt first...

An aside: I've added a related posts widget to the blog. I'll try it for a few days and see if the posts it links to are reasonable. The thumbnails its little brain has selected for this post are wacky.

Opinions on whether I should keep it are welcomed.

It is different because it's in your city, generally. Mine is not in my city. 'Course if I lived in your city, I wouldn't call it very "local", either. You do, however, definitely have a local fabric store!

I'm super excited about JA joining with JCP. My local JCP is setting up a big display center for the opening & I'm counting down the days:)

(Wondering how far away anonymous's local JCP is!)

Probably like 3 hours. :)

I work at a JCP. I am suuuper excited for our home department to change completely and get all these new awesome things (I am going to be broke I tell you!). From what I know my store's construction for home HOPEFULLY starts this week or next. (also my store is a 15 min drive away lol!)

Jenna, glad to hear that the local store you work at is not 40 miles away. :) Thanks for this report from the field!

Grandma G said...

Yeah... 15 min. is definitely more local than 40 miles! :)

JCP has gotten a lot of flack in the press because the Apple guy's ideas haven't really panned out. But, I too am hopeful they're on to something now. I hadn't shopped there since I was a kid, but make regular stops now. They have a lot of GREAT DEALS. Super excited to see the new home stuff too, as I'm on a quest to redo the boudoir!

I'm posting about some of their new collections today, too! Can't wait to check out the Joe Fresh...and hopefully they hurry with the Adler stuff! Love what you were able to find!

My JCP has something going on!! They have a large area blocked off with plastic that is under construction near the front door. I bet this is what is going on! I hope so because JCP used to be one of my favorite stores and in the last few years its gone down hill

Get ready for potential awesomeness. Maybe. :)

Vicki, What is by the front door SHOULD be the new brand from Canada for women, Joe Fresh. It is SUPPOSSED to (at least from what I know at my store) be unveiling on the 15th or 16th :D

Thanks for the link to the online purchasing page for Happy Chic...but did anyone get it to work? Every time I tried adding something to my bag I got a different kind of error...

I just went shopping for the first time in years at JCP after someone on Pinterest told me to check out their Plus Size department. SO GLAD I DID!!

There are a lot of great affordable and fashionable clothing stores, but most don't provide much as far as fashion goes for women over a size 16.

I was thrilled to find a TON of cute stuff at JCP, that was on trend and at a great price.

Change takes time. I think the Apple guy has made some great changes, they just take time to meld. I hope it continues on this path, because I am one satisfied customer.

Oh, and Jonathan Adler? I DIE.
LOVE JA. <3
