Oscars aftermath
After washing all the dishes late last night and cleaning up the mess, all that's left of our Oscars shindig is a cupcake stand and plastic martini glasses to take apart and pack away.
That and a bunch of Black Swan dinner leftovers, including cupcakes, black olive tapenade and goat cheese, tortilla chips, black bean and white cheddar soup, chocolate mousse, and a pitcher of white chocolate martinis. Alex left on a business trip today, so what's a girl to do but drink the whole thing herself? I wonder what time is too early to start.

good grief, aren't YOU the themey SuperHostess? looks like a great party. I always love leftovers.
I think this was my once-in-a-lifetime color matching food effort. Next year is a pajama party potluck.
Would you print the recipe for the cupcakes please (or mention the cookbook you got it from??) They look just like something my neighbor's mom used to make and I haven't been able to match it...
Mmmm...leftovers are the best - ok, one of the best - things about hosting! Those look delicious.
I also wanted to thank you for doing up the annual bingo sheets. My family and I always have a great time with them. Last night it was especially fun to hear my sister scream angrily at every winner, "TELL YOUR KIDS TO GO TO BED!!!!!" (She did not win.)
Ha! That's excellent, Sara.
Anonymous, see here for the cupcake recipe.
I hope you have another glass, I'm on my way to help finish off that pitcher! If you don't have a clean one, don't worry, you have some time since I'm coming from Nor Cal, ahem...
Hey, you told me you had... and I quote... "chocolate mouse". Maybe you'd already been into the martinis??
Mum
Ha, ha-- you're adorable.
Hey! I totally printed out your Oscar Bingo cards and they were a smash hit at my Oscar-watching party. Good on you!
Wauw! What a great spread and I am sure you enjoyed the leftovers. I know I would.....
I love your way, and it's never early:)
How about the white cheddar soup recipe? This looks like an awesome party. Bookmarking the cupcake recipe. :)
Start now. It's always 5 pm somewhere!
why can't you live next door to me?
Wow- I wish I had a cool party like yours I could have went to last night!
I'm panicking because I don't see a link for the recipes. I need that cupcake one bad. Help a sister out!
Looks like some pretty tasty leftovers.
Thanks for the cupcake recipe link...I should have searched first and asked questions later...but I was too busy salivating. Can't wait to make them, thanks again!
Thanks Jessica. Your blog now has me drooling.
If I wasn't grading papers, I'd help you with those martinis. Ah, what the heck! Still got any? I'm sure the students won't mind. :)
White chocolate "martinis"?!?
I...you...*sigh*
I'll wager there was no gin, no dry vermouth, and not an olive in sight near those creations, was there, Jess?
"Boo! Boo! Boo!"
maybe I missed it but could you please PLEASE send me a link for the white chocolate martini recipe? I nearly swooned in delight when I read that!

looking fabulous!!
I, too, would love it if you posted the white chocolate martini recipe. Thanks!!
Those cupcakes are a favorite in this house! So easy, so yummy!!
Wow, what a cute party!! Wish i could have been there to try some of that yummy grub!
Looks delicious! Enjoy!
I'd love to have the recipe for the black beand and white cheddar soup, as I am finishing up some black bean soup I made this weekend for lunch today!
ooooh white chocolate martinis sound divine!! :)i vote that it's NEVER too early to start. haha!
Mahan, there was vodka. What can I say. Green olives didn't fit the color scheme.
Here are some recipes.
Black Swan martini I diluted the simple syrup I made with lots of water, since the white chocolate concoction was very sweet and I didn't want to add much more sugar.
Amaretto chocolate mousse Dairy free for the vegan crowd. I used vanilla instead of the almond extract. Shelf-stable silken tofu in a box (not from the refrigerator section) worked great.
Olive tapenade I doubled it and used 1/3 black olives from a can to save a little $ and make it blacker.
Cheese soup
Black bean soup The name of the recipe says it's spicy, but it wasn't. And I blended all of it in the blender, not just a portion of it. Make it the day before and it will be extra tasty.
White salad I cut this in half, more or less. Used peeled apples instead of mushrooms and didn't top with cheese. Also didn't add much lettuce. Maybe a cup of iceberg, leaving out the greenest leaves. And white truffle oil? What the heck is that?
Cupcakes
P.S. I used vegetable broth in the black bean soup, not chicken.
How fun and looks yummy!
I love party leftovers! when you eat them, it's like having your own little decadent party . . . with no witnesses!
This stuff looks good! I wish I was at your Oscar party!
Those cupcakes look delicious!
leftovers? looks like the "perfect" reason to have your girlfriends over (mid-week parties are the best! plus it makes the weekwork fly by)... what fun decorations! adding the recipes to my "husband's recipe file" (he does the cooking)!!
I ran across your blog today and love it....I also love black bottom cupcakes! I have been making them for almost 20 years and have never run across anyone else who makes them...after seeing these I am really craving some!
