Turn an image into a quilt pattern
The Victoria and Albert Museum has created an online patchwork pattern maker that might cause quilters out there to jump up and down. (I'm not a quilter so I'm still seated, but somebody can let me know if this is useful.) You can upload an image and convert it instantly into your own quilt pattern. Have fun playing! Thanks for the tip, Cindy.

That looks superfun!
As I was reading that, I thought "Cindy's gonna love this!" And then I saw she beat me to it. :)
Oh! I've wanted something like this for ages! Thanks for posting!
Thanks for the link! I played with it a bit and it seemed to do really well with a fairly simple photo.
My husband's been trying to get me to make a quilt out of some of his fave album covers and I tried it on a Brian Eno one and it worked! It'll be his birthday pressie :) Thanks!!!
that is brilliant... off to spend many hours planning quilts... ;)
my mom sent me this about a month ago... i've already uploaded a photo and changed it for a quilt. 80% of the solid fabrics are at my house too. hubby has no idea yet.
super fun!
yes, I thik it can be useful: I've seen some quilts made from pictures for sale on Etsy! now we know their secret... ;D
OMG!!! Thanks for sharing :) Now I know how I'll spend my summer! You really do come up with the coolest things to share.
oh oh. That's trouble.
Some pictures seem to work better than others. There is a FANTASTIC one that would make a great quilt someone uploaded to the gallery of hot air balloons.
I'm off making my own pattern right now! I don't know if I have the skills to make the quilt, but what a fun toy anyway. Thanks for the great link!
LOVE it!
Wow! Thank you for the link! very interesting!
This is great - and it would work well for things like tile mosaics too, if people aren't inclined to quilt (I haven't attempted anything other than a t-shirt one, myself).
Very cool! Thanks!
It really is a cool concept. I'm not sure I'll actually do one, but it sure is fun to play with it.
You can buy software that can convert an image to cross-stitch too - mine is called MacStitch but you can get a demo with the book Manga Cross-stitch, which I highly recommend!
Awesome! I gave you credit for it because I just had to show it as well. Thanks for posting it!
Very cool! I've already created quilt patterns from two of my pictures. Thanks.

Woh thats really interesting and that secrets out!...! I'm going to give it a go ... will have to make time though what with all my other projects on the go! Many thanks for letting me know!

Thanks for posting this. I'm probably going to post it on my blog, too. I've been looking for something to use to make a pattern for a while now!
It's like Sliced Pixel, a technique originally created by Victor Van Gaasbeek. I have some sliced pixel artworks too. You can visit my tumblr here -> http://trimahar.tumblr.com/ thanks ;)
