Paint chip projects by Matthew Sporzynski

A new issue of GD USA magazine, a free publication for the graphic design community, arrived the other day. On the cover was a paint chip ice cream cone by Matthew Sporzynski of Real Simple magazine fame. (See his paper sculptures for Real Simple right here.) These amazing paint chip creations are part of a Sherwin Williams ad campaign; view all the print ads here. I wonder if these are too awesome—Sherwin Williams might end up with a massive paint chip shortage as everybody rushes out and attempts their own creations. And by "everybody," I mean, um, me.

I always joke about wanting that job...you know, the one where people make up the color names to go on the paint chips. I envision a room with a couple people sipping on wine and coming up with things like "All Day Cinama Pink"
Seriously, have you read those paint chips. It's amazing. Speaking of amazing, those objects made with paint chips are. Thanks for sharing.

That's so funny, just last night I was thinking that there would be a run on paint chip displays everywhere. (I saw the commercial on tv)

I think their TV ads are amazing. Paint chips are one of my favorite things. I framed a bunch of them and call it art...

It's a little odd, using paint chips for art. I've seen it in lots of things. I think it's cool! What I think is odd, paint chips are free, it's almost like stealing, yet it isn't! Cool work.

So rad! I love it when things are repurposed... sort of.

I'd be happy if I could do something half as creative as that -- even a quarter as creative as that!

These are great! And it's too funny because just last weekend I picked up tons of paint chips! I don't know what I'm going to do with them yet, but I just loved them so I couldn't stop picking them up!

It's hard to know what to say, being right after "airshoes" in the comments. I think he said it all. Too bad it has nothing to do with paint chips?

I'm just happy to see that someone else noticed the cool paint chip art! I use them for art projects at school and the stores I get them from are always so friendly. I thought maybe I was weird to think the paint chip art, so I'm glad to see how many others saw it too!

I haven't seen any of the print ads yet, but the TV commercial is quite impressive, even my kids commented on how cool it was. Thanks, just what we need is another crafty project :)

These really do kick butt - as do their matching commercials.

Paint chips also make great mosaic edges for mirrors when combined with a little Modge Podge: http://letsmakethat.doodlekit.com/album/image/315073
