Everyone needs a lumberjack

Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox arrived at my house via screenprint by The Little Friends of Printmaking. Aw, it reminds me of Minnesota, my home state. And it doesn't hurt that it's orange, too. Available here on Etsy.

Holy Schmoly! This is rad. I'm from Bemidji, MN, home of one of many (and the best, imho) Paul and Babe statue sets. Love this. And the fact that lfop made it just makes it that much more awesomer. ;) Thanks for sharing - I'm off to buy one for me.

Boy are *you* going to get a lot of puzzled looks when you hang that up, Jess. You can just look at them with the "Minnesota look" we've perfected so well here and offer them a "little lunch".

did you know that April 14th was Orange day? it is kind of like a Japanese valentines day.

M.B. Karger, greetings to you in Bemidji. I figure everyone there ought to get one of these!

Mahan, I don't know what our Minnesota look is, but you've inspired me to make some hotdish for supper tomorrow.

Breezy, I didn't know Japan had an Orange Day! I thought it was something they had in the Netherlands. Huh. I must look into this!

Incidentally, Jess, did you know that the first regiment sent to defend the Union during the Civil War not only came from Our Fair State, but was also clad in lumberjack attire?

The First Minnesota Volunteers arrived in Washington D.C. and fought at First Bull Run in uniforms of red flannel shirts, black flannel pants and wide-brimmed black hats, because it was what was available (big shock).

And now, you know...the *rest* of the story! Good day! :]

Well hello from St. Paul. I read your blog daily and did not realize you were a local! :-)

I live in Chicago now, but grew in MN and went to the U! I spent many, many hours on St. Paul campus.

Grandma G said...

Yeah, she grew in MN. But she hasn't grown 'up' yet. Unless you're talking height.

Mum knows

I live in MN, too. Way up in the NW near Canada. It's so incredibly boring here....Why do I live here again? Oh, yes, because ilovejim who won't leave. I'm not from here...no, no, no. I've lived many many places. I need to leave for a while and take a vaca.

Oh, yes, I'm only 1.5 hours away from the real babe & paul. Funny.

If you're ever in Madison (this is assuming you haven't been), you should check out the Paul Bunyan room at Memorial Union. The walls are covered with murals of Paul and his adventures. They were done as part of the WPA in the 1930s. Very cool.

Oh, Minnesota...such a wonderful place to be from!

Thank you for your wonderful post. :)

Oh man. Minnesota. I love you. And every once in a while (even though I'm totally a vegetable girl), I make myself some terribly unhealthy but awfully delicious hot dish. :D

I know how you love orange, so I thought you might be interested to know that orange is my 22 month old son's favorite color. I hope you don't mind me saying so, but orange is not the norm as far as favorite colors go. But I wonder if it's genetic, because my dad's fave color is orange too! So do any other members of your family have orange as their fave color?

Jessica Jones said...

Uh, I don't think anyone does. But I'm working to change that. :)

Grandma G said...

I can only speak for myself, but so far the change hasn't happened. I'm a blue/green lover myself. But hey, I don't 'mind' orange as much anymore. ;-)
