Fabric bookmarks
Inspired by a bookmark a friend sent from Japan, I made these little guys out of light-weight fabric scraps. Here's the super easy how-to. (It's so easy I'm kind of embarrassed to write it as a tutorial. And I stole somebody else's idea to boot. Sorry, Japanese company somewhere.)
1. Brush rubber cement onto a piece of cardstock in an area larger than the size your finished bookmark will be. Stick on a scrap of fabric, smoothing out any wrinkles.
2. Flip the cardstock over and repeat for the back side of the bookmark.
3. Mark the edges of your bookmark with a ruler and pencil, then cut it out using a sharp scissors.
4. Punch a hole at the top (I used an eighth-inch punch) and tie on a bit of thin ribbon.

Isn't it nice how the simplest things can add beauty to our lives? Thanks for sharing.
How divine! I plan on making some for myself and a few for others!!!
Such a sweet little project! Thanks!
lol Well that's definitely simple and doable. I'm very surprised that there's no sewing. I will definitely need to give that a try.

Very cute!
Oh I love easy projects like this! They would make me smile each time I opened the book. Thanks, I'll be linking.
Those are so cute, I'm always losing my bookmarks since I end using just a scrap of paper instead of an actual bookmark.
Quick, easy, and cute. Lovely gifts.
OH I love them! Must make! Thank you for sharing :)
Thanks for sharing! :)I saw something that were made out of Japanese paper and were sold for about $5... Cute idea for a shower, wedding or a birthday favor!
this can also be done using cardboard from food boxes. a good method of recycling and less going into the trash! my 6 year old made these a couple of years ago for gifts at Solstice.
These are so cute... and there's plenty of us out here who need super simple. and it's something the kids can do, too!
Thanks!
For me, simple is better, so thank you for this bookmark. I will not only make some for myself, but for my granddaughters. Keep up the good work.
I just did something like this last week --with the paper-backed remnents of Waverly fabric samples I used for another project. I had planned to zigzag stitches around the edges but my sewing machine didn't agree with me....
Looking forward to making these with my students! Thanks for showing something so simple. I'm going to also link to this on my blog -

This is really lovely. Do you have any alternatives to rubber cement? Is white glue okay?
Just wanted to let you know that I linked to this on my weekly roundup and since I'll be making them for my niece for Christmas, I'll be linking up to this on my handmade Christmas post as well. Thanks so much, and happy Thanksgiving!!
Thank you for making these. I tend to read more on the internet these days than a book. After seeing these fun, vibrant book marks it made me think of how much I take books for granted. Job well done!
These are great. I am making these for a baby shower that is based around reading and childrens books.
SUPER CUTE! love these. :)
Very cute. What a neat idea. I will be making these with my daughter.
I'm going to make these too - I really appreciate you sharing the how-to instructions! They look so colourful and pretty - really excited to do them. I'm inspired :)
Love them - I'm inspired to make them! ^-^
May make some for Christmas gifts 2012. Or a "just because gift" :)
Wonder if instead of the rubber cement, I could use laminate sheets?
Just a thought. Have a blessed night and remember JESUS LOVES YOU.
Can u use something else then cardstock, if so what can you use
Great idea! You can always use cereal boxes or other like material, great way to reuse.
