Bags, bags, everywhere!
My mom has been sewing up a storm. New totes made with my fabric are in the shop. It's horrible to have these sitting around, because every time I go somewhere, I want to take a different one along with me. But that would be naughty. What if it got dirty? No. Must. Resist.

The bags are really beautiful!! Any idea where i could maybe get/buy the pattern from.. is it too much to ask!!
I'm also dying to know where I could get this pattern. I love your site and check it daily, but the bags are just out of my price-range. If you'd ever consider sharing the pattern, we'd all be deeply indebted! Your mother is a beautiful seamstress - and of course, the fabrics make them fantastic!

Ah, I guess that means it's a proprietary secret. Sorry, guys! We spent a lot of time figuring out what we wanted the size and style of the bags to be, so we're hoping to get a little income in exchange for the work.
Beth, don't tempt me! I've had that exact thought about 50 times and managed to keep squelching it.
Totally Understand!!!! Maybe should just start dropping hints so my husband would know what i want for christmas!!!! I like the modern flora bag with the green lining the best :)

A little scenario:
Imagine you have a bakery. People enjoy coming to see what you have every day, and occasionally you give out little samples and "how-to's" of things you make, because you like people and enjoy sharing and encouraging others. You have your specialties, and people stop and buy things as well as accept the free goodies. One day, after a lot of thinking and planning and trial and error, you come up with a terrific recipe for some new and different cookies that people just don't find anywhere else. They look and smell delicious and tempt most everybody who walks by and looks in your window.
Now imagine you are a customer of that bakery, and you've probably enjoyed many of the samples and things offered there. Would you, upon discovering these cookies, tell the baker how great the cookies look and then ask her for the recipe so you could go home and make them yourself, thus costing not only the sale of cookies to you, but likely sales to others as well?
Methinks the baker's generosity has been taken for granted. ;-)

Hmm, good analogy, Mum. I know that nobody is deliberately trying to steal our "cakes," and I don't feel offended if anyone asks for the pattern. We all like to make things! I think most people just don't realize how much work and time and thought and expertise go into creating something, and that THAT PROCESS ITSELF gives art and design value, in addition to the raw materials that go into it.
Another little scenario:
Imagine that you are going to make one of our bags... identical. Here's what you would pay:
Pattern - $11.00 (free shipping?)
1 yd. Jess's fabric - $13.45
1 yd. solid canvas - $9.50 (or $13.45 if you want Jess's fabric as lining, too)
Shipping on fabric - $7.00(?)
Total - $40.95
If you want, you can also imagine adding a little extra for a magnetic snap.
Hmmm... it seems like it'd be costing you MORE to make the bag yourself! Then add in your time, including time to adjust the pattern to turn out like ours. Throw in a little extra time for putting in the snap... more if you add pocket(s).
I think our bags are actually a bargain! Granted, being the designer of the fabric, Jess gets a significant discount on the fabric (saving YOU money, too, in the long run), which allows a little profit to go to Grandma G for her hours spent cutting and sewing. And "mass producing" makes it more economical by the yard, fitting the pattern pieces in for the most possible cuttings per yard.
Now pardon me for adding this... but Grandma G's many years of sewing experience make for a very well-made bag! ;-) And with the beauty of Jess's fabric designs, what more could you ask for?!

These bags are beautiful and I love your fabric. Sigh, I think I can't fight it any longer and will finally stock up on fabric since the holidays are coming and I'll have plenty of time on my hand. Lucky for me they raised the custom limit in Germany so I can order more without paying taxes. Yeah!

Here's what you need to do: Spray the bags with Scotch guard and take them out in public (load the pockets with business cards because you will need them). People will oooh and aaah and then run home to check out your site and buy the bags! Voila'!
