I'm all done communing with nature (and my bed) after a deliciously long weekend. The weather in Tennessee was so lovely I could hardly stand it. Too bad it's only 47 degrees in Chicago. News I learned upon returning: My mom read this post, decided to find out what Crocs are, became intrigued, and bought some just to spite me. (Okay, it wasn't just to spite me, but can you believe that? Reverse psychology truly works.)

I couldnt agree more about the Crocs... why are people in love with them, no idea. I think they are aweful! Sacrifice design and taste over comfort?? hahhaa dont think so!

I have no idea! It was growing in the tall grass along the road. I thought maybe I could stylize it into some sort of design or pattern someday.
I have to say- I love crocs. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn! I am so relieved they've come out with ballet flats. I ordered the ballet flat sling backs for this summer! They're definitely a little cuter. I know they're ugly, but I can't help myself!!
I'm with you on the crocs thing for adults, but for little babies I just have to say there is nothing cuter. I just bought my 11-month-old a pair and they are so flippin' cute.
Those leather moccasins everyone puts their babies in are so hideous it's not hard to be cuter than them.
COMFORT, COMFORT, COMFORT!!! When you get as old as I am and your feet start to feel the wear and tear of all the miles, COMFORT becomes a lot more important than looks!
Besides, I only bought them for gardening (but found they're awfully comfortable to wear around the house, too!). ;-)
AND... I promised Jess I wouldn't wear them in public. (I think.)
Lisa, they're blue... sky blue, baby blue... something like that. And they're the ones without the holes in them (holes would not be good for gardening... but would make them cooler). So they don't look THAT bad! :-)

That's pretty funny about the Crocs. My mom swears by the comfort and she has knee and ankle issues, but I agree... they aren't much to look at.
First I couldn't stand Crocs, then I started to tolerate them, then I bought a pair for my little girl. I think they are ok for little ones but I sure wouldn't wear them. I hope I won't have to take my words back in the future. :)

OMG! I hate crocs too! I hate it a lot! It's so ugly!! Do you wear it now? I can't beleive it. You Mom is so lovely! haha...
Acceptable reasons for wearing Crocs:
1.)gardening
2.)you work in healthcare and you're pairing them with scrubs
3.)you're part of the under 12 set
Otherwise, it's next to impossible to support them on the basis of any aesthetic merits... They're not pretty.
Oh, and now there are high-heeled Crocs! (seen in Vogue and Macy's)

Crocs ARE the ugliest shoes around, but I have a pair. I love going barefoot, but I have stone floors,(rough on the feet) they are a must around the house. I try not to wear them out in public too much.

Funny about the crocs...to add to Sara's list of acceptable reasons...my son is on a swim team and the team wears matching red crocs on deck and so do the parents who have to stand on deck and get splashed while we time the kids. So...we're all there, looking crocky, and I guess we're in it together. Fairly acceptable.
I said I would never wear them, but...One more reason to wear Crocs: pregnancy. I think they are the ugliest shoe on earth, but it's hard for me to tolerate anything else during the foot-expansion stage and exhaustion of pregnancy. Thanks for your post! Love the happy creativity. :)
My daughter has pink crocs, but she would fall under the 12-year-old set, wouldn't she? I agree they are ugly, but I am obsessed with ugly footwear. A form of rebellion I guess? Like not wearing makeup or clean clothes?
You go Grandma G. and wear those crocs wherever you want- with pajama bottoms if you want to.
I've always hated crocs, but last summer, 42 weeks pregnant, in the South, in August, I bought a pair (not the ugly "cayman" style) and wore them constantly because I couldn't fit my fat feet into anything else. Now, they are my gardening shoes.

Ha! Thanks, Caroline! Just for the record, I don't wear makeup, either. I do draw the line at clean clothes, though (well, most of the time... not if I'm gardening in my Crocs, tho).

oh my, well to add to the ugliness,
a shoe salesman recently explained to me how regular wearing of crocs can cause all sorts of damage to our bodies (something about muscle or joint issues, i don't know he lost me with all the doctor's language). basically, they're really bad for the way your body works.
says the salesman...then again this was a salesman talking, so i make no claims to the truthfulness of this information.
LOL - I think your Mom is amazing, but I hate Crocs too! You've better be smart and remember that stunt for your future reverse psychology! ;)

Dude, this Crocks debate is fierce. I sincerely doubt that they're bad for your body, though.

I think the plant mystery is solved! I got an email from Angie who says:
"The flower is Asclepias variegata, probably. White Milkweed. Beautiful plant that is a valuable food source for Monarch caterpillars. Great one to have!" Thanks, Angie.
We stayed in a wonderful cabin we rented outside of Townsend, TN. We went there a year ago and had to do it again because we loved it so much. And Mahan, I did think of looking for ticks, but decided I'd skip it and wait until they swell up like balloons and become easier to discover. :)

I agree that Crocs aren't that great to look at, but I was willing to try them on because I am looking for shoes to wear while I irrigate the yard and garden once a week. But they were incredibly uncomfortable. Maybe my foot's misshapen. I'm not sure. But I did end up with a pair of the ballet flats and I hope they work.

Did you know that while in Tennessee that you were in "BIG ORANGE COUNTRY"??
You must google the University of Tennessee Vols to get a dose of just how important the color ORANGE really is to the residents of this geat state!
I am sure that if Pat Summit (the Lady Vols basketball coach) were to see the orange and white dishes on Etsy that she would get a set for sure! LOL

I did know that, which made me quite happy. No wonder I like it there so much. And best of all, I saw a guy wearing a bright orange T-shirt that said "Real men wear orange." Loved it!
