Vintage furniture scavenging

Chicagoans! My friend Barry just notified me about an amazing mid-century modern, vintage furniture source in Carol Stream. Jubilee Furniture Company is open on Friday evenings and Saturdays only, and it's a treasure trove of vintage goodies you can buy for a steal. Best of all, the proceeds support programs for children and families and provide transitional housing for single mothers. To see photos of some pieces in stock right now and read Barry's write-up, click here. For the store website, click here.

If I still lived in the chicago area I would be there on friday, but unfortunately--i'm a bit of a ways out.

Nonsense! I'm sure they'll let you carry your new desk onto the plane!

Interesting... if we'd kept our old furniture (remember Great-Grandma's chair I hated to part with?), it would be just "old-fashioned" or "out-of-style" and would definitely need to be replaced. But if you can go to a place like that and buy it, it's "vintage" and a "treasure". ;-)

Mum("vintage")

You're a vintage treasure. Hee hee.

Jess

Your family* mocks me so!

*Admittedly your mum's self proclaimed "vintage" status does give her certain rights.

:^)

Ohhh, Creature Comforts picked the right day to point me in this direction...I DO live in Chicago! This sounds like a fabulous day trip next weekend!

Ahem. Consulting my vintage dictionary (© 1967) that I received as a high school graduation gift (ooohh... see? I really AM vintage!), and skipping all that wine-related stuff, I found vintage to mean:
1 : of old, recognized, and enduring interest, importance, or quality : CLASSIC
2 : OLD-FASHIONED, OUTMODED
3 : of the best and most characteristic - used with a proper noun

Soooo, considering that I am a bit of all of the above, I choose specifically to be def. #3. After all, Mum IS a proper noun!

And I mocketh you not, StudioSmith! I have NEVER been known to mock or tease or fib or anything of the sort! (Well, maybe fib just a bit.)

;-)))

my parents have a set of those exact chairs in their basement. small world! when they were in the kitchen the orange clashed with the decor so my mom painted them gray.

Ooo, thank you! Except, hmm - where will I put whatever I pick up? A conundrum

graandma G - You're cool.

Grandma G said...

Aww, StudioSmith... thank you! (She said as she blushed.)

The reason I'm cool, though, is probably because it got to 14°F below zero last night!

Hey, did business pick up at the store this weekend?

(P.S. I'm a Perfeshunal Proffreeder, so.... be careful!! ;-) )

Dear Grandma G (and all) - Business at Jubilee Furniture this past weekend was wonderful! We had lots of new customers, thanks to Jess and other bloggers, and I'm extremely grateful! :-) I think everyone who stopped in - not only found some great bargains - but enjoyed the "experience" of the store (well, minimally they liked the free cookies! :-). I'd send Jess an offical statement of gratitude if Barry hadn't beaten me to it! Thanks all - Susan (jubilee furniture general manager)

Great news, Susan! Thanks for the update. Amazing what a little blogging can do, isn't it?

Jessica Jones said...

Susan, I'm so glad to hear it.

Yes, it is amazing what a little blogging can do! We tried to track where people heard about the store and one of my favorites was from two women who drove out from the city who heard about us from a friend in Canada who read about us at How About Orange! :-) Cool or what!
