Back from our trip

We've returned from a vacation to California. We visited friends in Riverside, then drove up Highway 1 along the coast to San Franciso, stayed a few nights in a cabin near Yosemite, and then drove back to Riverside. It was wonderful. Here are some of our snapshots.

I moved away from CA in 2000 and haven't had a chance to go back yet. These photos remind me that I need to do that ASAP. Thanks for sharing!

Your pictures look fantastic - is the very large tree a Giant Redwood? - the type that you can punch and it's so soft that it doesn't hurt...I love those, but apparently there's a very similar tree that you can muddle it up with that is very hard and would hurt a lot if you punched it! (I'm not really into the whole tree-punching thing, by the way, I just think they're very interesting!).

So pleased you're back anyway - I've missed reading your blog.

Our map of Yosemite had the trees labeled as Giant Sequoias. And you're right--the trunks are spongy and soft! But you bring up the point that had us mystified during the whole trip, and to this day... what's the difference between a redwood and a sequoia??? Anybody?

How did you get your photos to be on those fun angles and overlapping. are you using something besides blogger to do that. my pics always look so boring when added in to the blog.

Ooh, LOOOVE your blog! Mind if I add you to my blogroll?

Jessica Jones said...

DFM, please do! Katie, it's the magic of Photoshop. I manipulated the images there, adding shadows and overlapping them, then flattened the layers and saved them as jpegs.

I should add that I then uploaded those jpegs to blogger. Blogger can't perform fancy functions like that. But that's why Photoshop costs the big bucks and blogger is free!

Thanks for the photoshop info. I'm going to have to try that sometime. Also thanks for all the creative inspiration. I love checking out your blog.
