Work at your computer and listen to music you like

It's certainly possible that everybody already knows about this, and I've had my head under a rock until now. But my good friend Valerie just told me about Pandora.com, a free internet radio site that lets you create your own stations. You just type in some song names or artists you'd like to hear on your station, and then, using magic, Pandora will create a station that plays songs similar to those. If a song you hate sneaks in, you can give it a thumbs down and never hear it again. If a song you love plays, give it a thumbs up, and Pandora will play more songs that sound like that. And if you want to buy the song, just click the iTunes button and it will appear in your iTunes store so you can put it in your cart if you want. So now I will be happily designing brochures and listening to only music I like. Nice.

Since AT&T is my internet service provider, I have a similar account with launchcast.com . Except with launchcast, you can customize your radio station around different kinds of genres, bands, and individual songs. My station is quite a potpourri.

I'm not sure what the customization features are for the free account, though.

I like Pandora alot. Finetune.com is great too. I think I favor finetune a little more. At finetune you can customize your playlist and add specific songs.

I'm listening to it right now and I love it. Choose your favorite artist and hear unlimited music inspired by their sound--what better way to make it through the work day. I may test out finetune.com too.

I also love Pandora. It always has even the most obscure artists that I like and matches up similar ones quite well.

I think I went on Pandora a looonnnggg time ago because when I went to the link, there were two stations that I had created (and had completely forgotton about!) Thanks so much for reminding me about this site! :-) I will definitely be going there more often now.

What I like most about Pandora is that they play new music that you may never have heard. New but similar to your taste.

last.fm is similar, but it pulls from people's iTunes profiles to offer music that other people buy that is similar to your interests.

and it is also free.

Sadly, these types of projects are under attack by lobbyists who think that this is the same as copying music.

i would go with last.fm, personally. i like to experiment with new music, but last.fm's radio is a little more predictable. plus, it's a worldwide thing, so that's fun.

Awww.. it's not available in Australia, due to licensing restraints. Boooooo.

Had some friends over the other night and we were discussing the antiquated laws which are applied to digital music media.

Definitely isn't the same system when there is no physical transfer of vinyl, tape or CD anymore.
Lots of revisions going on at the moment... which could be good, provided it's done right!

I found this site a while ago and love it but then all of a sudden they didn't want 'the Canadians' using so the site won't work for me anymore :(

Who-hoo. What a greaet site. Thanks for the info. I LOVE your blog. I would like to put a link to it on my site, if that's OK. If you would like it removed, please let me know. Rock on!

Sure, Chanda, go ahead.

Everybody outside the U.S., so sorry about Pandora! Try some of the other sites recommended above. Thanks for those, guys.
