Ugh, it's taking me forever to get anything done in our house! So unfortunate how work gets in the way. And eating. And sleeping. And watching past seasons of Scandal on Netflix. Wait, one of these things could be avoided.
I could quit my job.
All the rooms are in various stages of haven't-started to halfway-there. I'm focusing on the parlor right now since it was totally empty and also the room you see when you open the front door. We would like it to look like people actually live here.
The light fixture I ordered arrived recently. It's so pretty! But it has a small problem, as you can see above. A new shade is on the way, thanks to the excellent customer service at Joss and Main.
The fabric I ordered for the chairs came. It's Malta Tourmaline by Iman Home. It's soft and a little bit velvety. I'm waiting for the chairs to upholster themselves.
And the rug I ordered? I just cancelled it. I don't want to wait 12 weeks, and the more I thought about it, the more I felt like I just didn't LOVE it. I kept thinking circus tent, and it's not very plush. If option #1 was cheaper, I'd try it. Maybe I can find it in a store and they'll let me bring it home and then bring it back if it looks insane.
At least we've got drapes up. Progress!
"Drapes up"... and then you don't even show us! ;(
ReplyDeleteLove your chair fabric! I hope the chairs get at their upholstering soon! (And I wish I was there to help them!)
Sooo impressed with the J&M customer service!!
Better not quit your job. It's expensive to furnish a house! ;)
I think you've been making great progress!! It just takes time to get everything 'just right'.
Love you,
Mum
Sorrrry.... I forgot to take a picture. And now it's all cloudy out so the room is super dark like a cave. Why? Because there's still no LIGHT FIXTURE!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes. I'd better get ANOTHER job to pay for all this. Maybe I can drive the ice cream truck on weekends.
Hey, do you know about Flor? They are amazing carpet tiles, you could probably come up with a fabulous design of your own, and they're environmentally friendly too.
ReplyDeleteHere's a link (I don't work for them, just love all the possibilities!)

just some thoughts
Ooo, I can't wait to check out these links! Andrea, I had Flor tiles in our Chicago living room for a few years. They weren't quite as easily washable as I had hoped (and hard to dry--they ended up having a slight wet dog smell for the rest of their life) and not very cushy, but I had also gotten a really flat textured style. I should see what they've got, now that it's years later!
ReplyDeleteThere's a Rugs USA Groupon deal today, too! http://www.groupon.com/deals/rugs-usa-3
ReplyDeleteI just bought a cushier (totally a word) style of flor (the morroccan knock off) and have been really pleased by how soft it is and how well it cleans. I have two kids and a dog, so we're hard on it. No dog smell as yet (other than the one from the actual dog, but she's tiny). Someday soon my house will be clean enough that I can post pictures.
ReplyDeleteAwesome--thanks for the report!
ReplyDeleteCareful - that ice cream equipment can get kinda feisty at times!!
ReplyDeleteMum
Yeah! I don't want to come home dripping with chocolate malt from head to toe every day!
ReplyDeleteHate to say it but -- I ordered that fixture twice and didn't notice the crack in the second one also until an electrician had hung it (while I was out of town) Buyer beware.
ReplyDeleteThat light fixture is lovely. You are going to have a very happy house.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love that light fixture! And I like the upholstery too. I hope your home decoration starts to speed up, but not too fast, because isn't the process part of the fun? Once you're done, you'll be pinning all those cool home decorating ideas with nothing to use them on ;) At least, that how it is for me!
ReplyDeleteQueen of Fun,
ReplyDeleteYikes! Fingers crossed that the next shade will be okay!
Hi! I'm a never poster but I want to say I'm glad you didn't order the rug-- the rug was fine, but your taste is exquisite, I think you'll find something better, it might take some time... I'm saying that as this as the slowest house fixer upper ever, but some things we did quickly I regret...some things feel like they may never get finished. (We had some pretty big issues to overcome though too)
ReplyDeleteLove that light fixture, and the new chair fabric. And good for you for cancelling something you didn't "love" - gonna live with it for a long time, better love it!
ReplyDeletei love the fabric for the chair. and i understand the obsession with scandal. i have last nights episode dvr'd and i can't wait to get home and watch it after work.
ReplyDeleteI laughed out loud at your post. There appear to be a lot of things waiting to "upholster themselves" at MY house. Let me know if you ever discover the secret to this miracle.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and am enjoying getting to see what you are doing with your wonderful house! Not sure if I have commented before, but when you said that you canceled your rug order I knew it was time...I have been rooting (sp?) for rug option # 1 all along! It just looks fabulous! I hope those chairs upholster themselves soon!
ReplyDeletexoxo Elizabeth
Thanks for the reality check, I'm not the only one with rooms that need to be finished and so many things keeping me from doing it. Like my day job as well...haha! I can't wait to see your progress. I've got chairs and the fabric for a year and still waiting on them to get done.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, thanks for your vote! I'll know it's a sign if that rug goes on sale...
ReplyDeleteEstela, I hear ya.
Inspiring house, hoping I have like it.
