I finally joined Pinterest

Since last year I've been receiving invitations to join Pinterest. I've dragged my feet until now, since I was afraid Pinterest would become the ultimate time-waster. There's already Facebook, Twitter, updating this blog, responding to comments and fielding emails... stuffed into the cracks between running my graphic design business full time.

And given Pinterest's home page, I expected I'd be getting a steady stream of manicured fingernails and Ryan Gosling photos. Though lovely, I don't need to see more than one.

But after a conversation with friends I took the plunge and joined. And hey, it turns out you can follow people with similar interests. Goodbye fingernails, hello mid-century furniture! This could get terribly inspiring.

You can find me on Pinterest right here.

  2. Hmm, I have the same issue as you here! I'm already everywhere, but not on pinterest since I'm terrified I'll sacrifice my last moments of non-digital world to its beauty.. Alas, it proves to be rather necessary to blogger I guess.. anyway, maybe I'll meet you there too!

  3. You're pretty behind the times, y'know. Even your ol' mum has had an account for ages. ;(

  4. I know. I'm so not an early adopter.

  5. I just see Pinterest as a better way to bookmark & sort links. I do follow a few friends because it is really fun to see what they are marking, but not many strangers. (When I do, it's only one board of theirs) That way it is not a big timewaster!

  8. I do like Tharvey, except I don't even look at the boards I follow. In fact, I hardly ever return to the things I've pinned on my own boards! :)

  10. That is so funny that you joined Pinterest and that your initial thought was about nails and Ryan Gosling; I repinned 2 Ryan Gosling posts yesterday and am always looking at nails!! BUT, I did think of you recently when I was there and looking at lots of orange items; There are many, many interesting things to see. I hope you don't get too addicted (like me!).

  16. I shall follow you! I love Pinterest! For me its all about inspiration and despite the funny memes about not actually following through with the pins, I find that I actually do because it helps me organize my to-do list. ~Robin

  22. Hooray! Following people who inspire you/find the awesomest stuff/ is what makes Pinterest great! Otherwise you might waste away surrounded by cute dogs, (lying) lowfat dessert recipes, and pictures of Tahiti! So Whoop yay! Following!

  26. It was a huge timewaster for me at the start but now it's like my personal idea book, hehe. I'm somewhat particular so I love the idea of organizing pins into boards and topics.

  28. Welcome! I rarely look at 'everything' on pinterest because of all the nail art and bare bellied beach models.

  29. Is there any way to join without needing a Facebook or Twitter account? I got an invite, but it seemed like I had to sign up somewhere else first, which is silly. :/

  30. Valerie, I know! I didn't see another way, and that's goofy.

  34. Welcome to pinterest :) you can change your password and email in your settings. That´s how I did it...I like pinterest as a personal notebook, but I also prevented my own blog from being pinned, because I really try to link contents back to the copyright owner and not just to another bogger, this is still a big issue at pinterest.

  35. After a month or so of non-stop pinning you go back to normal life. Yes, it is somewhat of a time waster, but I cannot stop! so much cool stuff out there, so many ideas, so many things to do and see! You'll love it.
