Giveaway: Sears gift cards | How About Orange

December 02, 2009

Giveaway: Sears gift cards

Sitting on my desk is a $200 gift card from Sears, and here's my dilemma: should I spend it on myself or on Christmas presents for other people? Look at all the cool goodies $200 would buy you from the Sears website. (If your name is Jess and you like orange things and modern patterns, that is.) That doormat is calling my name. However, my mom is a huge Lands End fan and might never let me hear the end of it if I don't get her some socks, at least. While I ponder this moral dilemma, there's good news for you, too.

To help you with your holiday shopping, Sears is giving away two $50 gift cards to How About Orange readers. The cards can be used in stores and online at Sears, Kmart, and Lands End, so you have tons of options.

To enter the drawing, leave a comment on this post with a way of contacting you, plus one thing you'd like to buy with your gift card. (I need Christmas gift suggestions, so I plan to read through here and steal all your ideas.) The giveaway ends next Wednesday (12/9/09) at midnight CST. Two winners will be selected by a random number generator, announced in this post, and contacted.

Update: Giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to the winning commenters #165— Jessie, and #636—Lynnetta. Happy shopping!

We're moving to a new house post holidays, and thinking about having a designated design/work space for the first time - how cool would it be to use sleek metal tool storage to store art and sewing gear? I love the Craftsman 8-Drawer, rolling tool cabinet in "Orange Metallic"!

I didn't realize Sears had so many neat things. My daughter has flown the nest so I'm turning her bedroom into my studio for sewing and crafts. I'm sure I could find plenty of things to use the gift card for...from tools to decor. Love the vases you have pictured. Sears? Who knew!!

I'd like to get a new doormat. Seriously. I moved into a new apartment and I bought a small, black, plain doormat at Sears this past summer and someone stole it right off my back porch! Who would do that?! Grr! Needless to say, a new doormat would be nice and perhaps a trap door.

Bah humbug!

I would buy myself a nice dress. I love dresses, but they are usually so expensive that I tend to buy ones that are low quality and end up falling apart after a while. I could really use some nicer pieces in my wardrobe.

I never really shop at Sears, BUT have the perfect use for those gift cards... the post office (for those in Chicago, the one on Harrison near the loop) has Letters to Santa that real people have written. You can pick whichever letter(s) you want & fulfill their wishes! It is seriously such a cool thing- you can make a kid really have Santa come to his house. Anyhoo, I love Sears gift cards for the families, since they can buy clothes (including Chicago Public School uniforms), housewares, anything really they may be needing. :)

I'm not always so generous, but it is what I think of when the topic of Sears comes up, so had to share...

Nicole B. said...

I would buy some outdoor Christmas decorations...just bought my first house this year and have nothing for the outdoors!

So, here's a story.

I got married in August. As you probably know, you get a lot of giftcards when you get married. We had a $50 giftcard to Sears, so off we went.

As I was randomly picking out kitchen utensils, my husband approached with a box full of drill bits. Conversation proceeded:

Him: "umm, honey... maybe I could get new drill bits."
Me: "yeah, that's good."
Him: "what? You're letting me get a man gift?"

Suffice it to say, most wedding gifts are NOT "man gifts," and he was thrilled. So I would use the giftcard to get another man gift for him.

I want to get my husband a magnetic tray from Sears that hold small screws and such while you are working on a project. As an aside, the Target website (and I guess the stores) have the most fun group of gift cards. The one I got acts as a remote control for a little Christmas mouse that comes with it. Another is a music player that you can record a message on. AND you pay nothing extra!! There is a $1.95 shipping charge to each address (I bought 4 all sent to me, still just $1.95) I can't believe I haven't heard of these before. I bet they sell out soon. Jane (jane12734@aol.com)

When I come upon some "found" money I love to spend some time and just walk around a store until I find something I don't need and would not generally buy for myself but just happen to love the look of. Since that doesn't help with your shopping I will add that Barnes and Noble is giving away a free $10 gift card for every $100 in gift cards you buy so I am buying the gift cards for myself to use to buy books for gifts and then giving the free ones to my mom who insists we don't spend any money on her.

Ty Pennington Style Bamboo Cotton Towels. Some might say I'm obsessed. They immediately change the scene with pops of trendy color combos for the commitment-phobes like me. They end up being recycled into craft projects then. Can't go wrong! :)

I'd probably put it toward this...a Craftsman 32 pc. General Purpose Tool Set... to keep for myself. My husband has enough tools, but I never know where to look for them when I need them. They are either in his truck toolbox, down at deer camp, in the shed...too many places to look!

I could really use some new work clothes and a nice comfortable pair of black flats. But I'd probably end up spending it on something less practical, like a cute dress that I won't wear for months because it will be too cold!

I'd go for one of those awesome Lands End toiletry kits. My husband has one, and I'm wondering why I don't. Plus, they have hangers on them, so I could hang them on the shower curtain rod in the hotel room and FINALLY keep my toiletries out of my 3-year-old's reach.

Okay so I am so glad to find your blog. I LOVE orange and it is never really appreciated like it should be. If I win I would buy my husband something. Money is tight this year and we decided to go sans gift but if I won some extra gift giving resources that would make it okay :) And then maybe I could even sneak a little something orange in there for me ;)

Wow! A whole lotta commenting going on here. I would probably wind up getting a Lands End tote bag because I'm usually dragging around a ton of stuff and never seem to have enough bags to put them all in! That, or I might stock up on kitchen goodies. Never can have too many of those!

What a great giveaway! My father has been out of work since January and doesn't have his own computer to do his own job search on, so I'd put the gift cards toward this:

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00314874000P?vName=Computers+%26+Electronics&cName=Laptops&sName=Laptops

It wouldn't cover it all, but at least I would be able to help them out some.
