Eager to make something out of the new fabric, I tried out My Spare Time's free pleated purse pattern. I made the straps a little bit longer so I could wear a coat and still fit the bag over my shoulder. And since this is made of nice, sturdy canvas, I skipped putting in interfacing. This tutorial for inserting magnet snaps was helpful, too.
Yes, uh, "mistakes were made," so my seam ripper got a good workout. The moment it was finished I vowed I'd never sew another thing again, like I always do, but today I think it's cute and I've already forgotten the trauma. (Sounds like my mom friends describing labor. Ha.)
I love that pattern...very hip.

Great bag - the fabric makes it!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're over the trauma of the labor already. LOL
ReplyDeleteGreat job, and soooo cute!
Love,
Mum (Yeah, the trauma of having you didn't keep me from having another one. ;-) )
cute bag! I love the new prints from the previous post as well :)
ReplyDeleteMisery loves company - I'm feeling better knowing someone else's seam ripper gets a workout when taking on a new project. Love the bag!
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteI should probably buy a seam ripper one of these days. I lost mine and have been using my embroidery scissors for a couple of years now, haha.
I love her pattern, and since she posted it I've been looking for some great fabric to make it with. Yours turned out so great!

ReplyDeleteWell, and if you don't altogether *forget* the trauma, at least you say to yourself that it was worth it! :0) Great job.
ReplyDeleteLove the bag - now if only I could sew :)
ReplyDeletesuper cute bag!
ReplyDeleteI almost bought some of that fabric the other day. Then I remembered I don't sew. Hah! Bag looks great!

Love this--the style and fabric are great together. You've inspired me to break out my sewing machine soon!
ReplyDeleteGreat bag! Love your new fabric -
ReplyDeleteNice job!!!! You are quite the seamstress!
ReplyDeleteGreat bag, great pattern and great fabric!!! your labor gave us a wonderful 'baby', do it again, please ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely going to try this. Yours is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat's gorgeous-- I wish I was half that craftsy!
ReplyDeleteLOL. Great job! You sound just like me in regards to sewing. I know how to put together things in my head but once I get to the sewing machine it all goes downhill from there.
ReplyDeleteLove the fabric and bag pattern together! Fab job!
ReplyDeleteOh I'm totally in love. I love the new fabrics too.
ReplyDeletei attempted the pleated bag, but it looked like mary poppins's carpet bag where she pulled out lamps, furniture, etc. i did something wrong. the bottom is too square. the pleats threw me for a loop and i was not a happy camper making it. i threw it across the room twice, counted to 10, picked it up again, put it down and went to cook dinner. i am still looking at it. lol
ReplyDeletedid you really make that bag all by yourself??
ReplyDeleteI did. I know, it's shocking to me, too.
ReplyDeleteMandylifeboats, you crack me up. I can totally relate.
ReplyDeleteAHHHH!!! i did it! i made the bag... it was not difficult, but was sometimes frustrating.. now I understand Jessica and mandylifeboats...:)
ReplyDeleteTo whom who may concern, the new 'baby' is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/41015551@N00/3475585795/in/set-72157617341114140/
I love it :) now it's time to try the buttercup bag!
Ha. My seam ripper got a good workout too, mainly because I am not good with straps. But it came out lovely in the end!!
ReplyDeleteDo you think Grandma G will make one for me?
ReplyDeleteGrandma G is busy sewing.... :)
