Saturday sewing
Eager to make something out of the new fabric, I tried out My Spare Time's free pleated purse pattern. I made the straps a little bit longer so I could wear a coat and still fit the bag over my shoulder. And since this is made of nice, sturdy canvas, I skipped putting in interfacing. This tutorial for inserting magnet snaps was helpful, too.
Yes, uh, "mistakes were made," so my seam ripper got a good workout. The moment it was finished I vowed I'd never sew another thing again, like I always do, but today I think it's cute and I've already forgotten the trauma. (Sounds like my mom friends describing labor. Ha.)

I should probably buy a seam ripper one of these days. I lost mine and have been using my embroidery scissors for a couple of years now, haha.

LOL. Great job! You sound just like me in regards to sewing. I know how to put together things in my head but once I get to the sewing machine it all goes downhill from there.

i attempted the pleated bag, but it looked like mary poppins's carpet bag where she pulled out lamps, furniture, etc. i did something wrong. the bottom is too square. the pleats threw me for a loop and i was not a happy camper making it. i threw it across the room twice, counted to 10, picked it up again, put it down and went to cook dinner. i am still looking at it. lol

AHHHH!!! i did it! i made the bag... it was not difficult, but was sometimes frustrating.. now I understand Jessica and mandylifeboats...:)

Ha. My seam ripper got a good workout too, mainly because I am not good with straps. But it came out lovely in the end!!
