Lorem ipsum, the fake text designers use as placeholder copy on layouts, has been around for ages. Maybe you've seen Bacon Ipsum, Cupcake Ipsum, Hipster Ipsum, and many other ipsums. (Ipsa?) But nothing is more festive this time of year than Zombie Ipsum. Generate paragraphs in regular, lite, or with 50% more brains, right here.
I used it in a layout the other day and sent it off to the client. No comment so far.
You may never hear from that client again. ;)
ReplyDeleteMum
They may still be using Google translator to work out the text! Great graphics and layout as usual!
ReplyDeleteThis makes me smile :D
ReplyDeleteBrilliant and funny idea! Lorem ipsum is very useful but also a bit boring sometimes... I love the fillerama ipsum specially with the doctor who quotes! "You hate me; you want to kill me! Well, go on! Kill me! KILL ME! Did I mention we have comfy chairs?"
ReplyDeleteHehehe
Love it!
Thinking about whether it would really be ipsa (good guess by the way) and curious to find out what lorem meant (really makes me think of a lorax) I found out that it's just mangled Latin - part of the word dolorem (pain).
ReplyDeleteSo if we were quoting the Cicero correctly it would be dolorem ipsum, the plural of which (if my faint memory of how to use latin is correct) would be dolores ipsos (pains themselves).
It's actually quite a lovely passage:
Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure.
Not exactly something you'd put on a greeting card for your depressed friend, but probably pretty true.
ps: I'm sure the client didn't mind.
ReplyDeleteExcellent research, Jillomazoo. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThe client has reported that she enjoyed the ipsos.
