Frame purse inspiration

For Christmas my mum (Grandma G) asked for metal frames for making a couple of clasp clutches. We bought her frames and glue from While Baby Naps at Etsy. Looking forward to seeing the outcome!

There are tutorials all over the internet for this type of bag. Sew 4 Home has just posted a tutorial featuring Joel Dewberry's Notting Hill fabric collection, above. Find the how-to for those right here.

And for further clutch bag inspiration, check out these fun items from various Etsy sellers: Phone clutch from Octopurse, Squirrel and Striped purses from Misala, and Cars bag with handle from Oktak.

  1. Uh... is this a hint to get going at it? ;)

Oh, I have soooo many fun projects lined up! I hope it's a long winter! (Yikes! Did I just say that?! Don't tell Pa!)

  2. Ugh, long winter?? Are you crazy? I'm still mourning the loss of summer. Can't wait for it to return.

  4. You should warn your Mom that these little clutch purses can be addictive... lol. I've made several and have frames bought to make more in various sizes. And now I'm trying to figure out how to make the squirrel one you posted!

  6. Thanks for compiling all these links! I have been intimidated by metal frames but may just take the plunge now. They have such a fun vintage look!

  7. Hey Jessica,
Just wondering if you're going to ALT again this year? If so I'll look for ya. Also, are you on Instagram?
    Thanks!

  9. Hey Dana! No Alt for me this year. And I don't use Instagram, either. Have a great time, though, and thanks for asking!

    Sarah, happy sewing!

  10. I do love this look but have never tried them. I think it's time to give it a try.

  11. Cool, so I have wanted to try this for ages, but was hoping there was a Canadian seller of frames. I'm assuming since you bought from "While Baby Naps", that the cheapest options are from the U.S. Glad to get a recommendation of and Etsy store to buy them from.
I will now have to buy some and give it a try!

  12. Tanima, you could search Etsy for Canadian sellers. I didn't look, since I don't live there. You might be able to find cheaper frames somewhere, too. I wanted that glue, so I just ordered everything from the same place.

  14. Oh these are so cute! I'm noticing a trend with these types of purses. Perhaps they are the in thing for the upcoming season? At any rate thanks for the tutorial. Purses are my thing and I just have to try one or ten of these!
