Build 3D paper letters from a nifty font

Speaking of Fontstruct, I found something cool over there. Punched Out is a free font that allows you to type letters, print, cut, fold, and glue to make 3D forms. Created by Tobias Sommer, it's available for download at Dafont or Fontstruct. I gave it a try while watching TV. It's a little tedious, but the result is fun!

I printed the letters in gray, scored along the center of the dashed lines, and folded so that the printing ended up on the inside of each letter.

  10. I love this idea and ssssso want to try it! I'm just a bit confused about what font size to be used or how to enlarge them so that they look big enough in real life.

  11. Well, I'm not sure how big "big enough" is to you. The letters I made are about 4" tall. Each letter was printed separately to fill a piece of standard-size computer paper. I used Adobe Illustrator.

If you want to print them from Word:
Set your page margins to 0.5".
Type the letter you want to make.
Change the font to Punched Out and set the point size to about 800 (or whatever fits on the page).
Make the color gray if you're worried the outlines will show through the other side of your paper.
    Print.
Cut on the solid lines and fold on the dashed lines.

  17. They are AWESOME!! I am so in love with this font now!! A warning out there for all you, make them BIG!! I made the mistake of printing them relatively small (about size 150 font 0.0) and putting them together was TEDIOUS AS HECK!! But they look so cool, so worth it in my book!

Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
