Quiz: What's your signature?

As you know, I think quizzes are super entertaining—especially the ones based on pictures. So when I saw the Ethan Allen "What's Your Signature" test mentioned on Young House Love, I was compelled to take it. I hoped to fare a little better than the Youngsters, who got some funny results.

My signature was diagnosed as Elegance, "a seamless composition of quintessentially classic design elements... a cosmopolitan mix of ornate and clean woods paired with chic, enduring fabrics." Not a perfect fit, but what killed me were the room inspirations I was offered. Ethan Allen suggested I'd like this:

It made me laugh. I hate everything about it. Well, actually the window in the room is nice, if you remove the curtains, the artwork, the wallpaper, all the furniture, the rug, and the chandelier. But to each his own.

What my living room actually looks like:

See a couple more pictures in this post. Maybe I should add some paisley for increased Elegance. Give the quiz a shot and see if you do any better!

  1. It got me all wrong. So I looked at the examples of each of the 5 possible outcomes and knew right away which one was me. For fun, I took the quiz 3 more times (they give some different choices each time). In a total of 4 times taking the quiz, I got 3 different answers, none of which was correct.

  2. "Romance" here. Haha. Although I'm okay with the "charm minus the fuss" part.

  3. I got vintage, which is pretty accurate.
I love the painting on your wall! Did you do it or where is it from?

  4. I got Explorer... even though I don't like the style that they offered the definition is not too far off... I lvoe maps and travel related items... TFS!

  5. I got Vintage, which isn't too far off.

  6. Take it twice!
My first style came out "Romantic," which had some appealing aspects, but felt a bit frou-frou to be genuinely *me.*
For kicks I thought I would make a fresh try, choosing an alternate for image choices I was split on. Too my surprise a whole new crop of choices popped up and I was able to come a lot closer to choosing things I find appealing. Round two: Vintage! A pretty good assessment of what I like.

  7. Vintage. I would say it was pretty spot on.

  8. Took it twice, got explorer twice. Pretty close.

  9. I was surprised that it actually got me pretty well. I was "Vintage". Usually these quizzes are all over the place for me!

  10. "Explorer." Their example pics were too beige, brown, and red for my tastes, but the lines of the furniture were close and basic room designs were right on.

  11. I got vintage and I have to say it's my favorite of the bunch. Explorer would probably be my next pick.

  12. I got "Vintage" and that's pretty spot on - loved all the rooms it showed me!

  15. i took it three times + i got different results: vintage, explorer + romance. def vintage + explorer, a wee bit of romance + i'd say some modern thrown in {just because i say so! :) }

  16. So after taking the quiz four times, I got vintage once and explorer the other three times. Fairly accurate in that I like warm, worn-in and casual kind of things. But usually with a bit of an edge on it.

Those two were definitely closer than any of the other choices. Maybe I'd be a Modern Vintage Explorer?

  18. I love your living room. Ethan Allen has totally lost me with their new signatures...

  19. I took the quiz 2 times, since the pics are different, so first time I got Elegance, and second Explorer. I guess I'm a funky mix of both! (My room is cluttered with my latest inventions, discoveries and books, but somehow crammed a bit elegantly)

  20. Oh word - I got romance where all the room examples are white/off-white. Pretty, but so far removed from how my house actually looks!!!

  21. I got elegance too. And was similarly bemused!

  22. "Explorer" first try. "Vintage" the second try. I must be an old explorer! We have some Ethan Allen furniture so I took the "quiz" to make sure we got it right. Ha Ha! Vintage Aunt in Lake Elmo

  23. OMG, they gave me Elegance, too! I don't have an elegant bone in my body. I wear only cotton, slacks and polo shirts. Don't own a dress or a pair of heels. My furniture is a mix of my parents' mid-century plus stuff I've picked up at IKEA. :/

  24. Vintage here too -- not too far off ;-)

  25. I think the jury's in on this one: you need more than 3 pictures to determine someone's "signature".

  26. I got Vintage... not too far off. But my favorite part was the man who apparently is part of my furniture tastes?

  27. I love the coin purse. What a lovely little gift to receive.

  28. I am a Vintage- I was hoping for something like Retro/Modern.

  29. i'm "modern" and they actually got me perfectly. all their designs pretty much look like our house... except less chaotic.

  30. I was vintage. Though I think there example rooms are a little more boring than my actual style...if I might say so myself!

  31. I got vintage. Pretty accurate, but the pictures they had availiable were not exactly the best for me. :/

  32. I took it and got vintage. I was like yes! They knew what I like. But the photos of their rooms were SO not what I would call vintage.

  33. I didn't take the quiz, but I want to know ... where did you get your TV unit? I love it!

  34. Thanks, Christina. It's actually two pieces from Ikea. Read more about it here. http://howaboutorange.blogspot.com/2011/01/visit-to-living-room.html
