How to make your own scratch-offs

Continuing the "Wish I'd Thought of That" series, learn to make your own scratch-offs from Martha Stewart. I've seen several tutorials for creating scratch-off tickets using dish soap and paint, and always wanted to test it. At Martha, the mixture is applied to a save-the-date wedding announcement. To see the instructions, click here. (Note the tips in the comments, too.)

  1. What a great series!!!

I've seen the scratch off concept done so many time but this one was a great execution by Martha Stewart.

    Thanks for the post!

  2. I did this with our "we've moved" cards - covering our new address. Was pretty easy to do. (I used a layer of clear nail polish to cover the text before the paint. Helped to protect from scratching off.)

  3. Cute, but seems like an awful lot of work for something you're gonna tell 'em, anyway. ;)))

  4. aside from nail polish you can also use clear tape so it scratches neatly and doesn't tear off your paper :)

  5. I love doing this --- I made scratch-off Valentines last year for my small group using a recipe I found via Family Fun magazine. I applied the paint/soap solution to clear contact paper and then cut out whatever shape I wanted. Peel the backing off the contact paper and apply directly over top of the image you want to cover up! Easy!
