Mod Podge Amy, trouble-maker that she is, sent over
this article about the color preferences of men and women. The excerpted graphic above shows the
least favorite colors reported by men on the left and women on the right. Dear readers, this is a tragic state of affairs! Do I insist that orange be everyone's favorite color? No. But should it ever be one's
least favorite color? Never! Lemon yellow is far worse. Results also revealed that the majority of people surveyed believe orange to be a "cheap" color. Blasphemy!
If it makes you feel better...brown is my favorite color! How can anyone not like brown? It's the color of chocolate! It's the color of my hair and eyes and favorite sweater! It's the color of trees! It's the color of... oh, wait, let's not go there. Maybe that's why people don't like it.
ReplyDeleteYours in autumnal colors,
Jo
I grew up in a house where orange was considered cheap. I think my fondness for it is partly related to childhood rebellion. Just got an orange chair.
ReplyDeleteCheap! These "people" are obviously not familiar with that "cheap" little brand Hermes! Orange lovers unite!
ReplyDeleteI love orange it's my favorite color!!!
ReplyDelete*Gasp* - well I nevah!
ReplyDeleteThey must be confused somehow, orange is fantastic! Good thing we know better! ;-)
When I buy a house, I want to paint the dining room a rich pumpkin color. Now fluorescent green, there's a color I could do without.
ReplyDeletedear god! the entire floor, 2500 sq.ft. of my store is orange! we love orange, it's the brand color!
ReplyDeleteNigh unto sacrilege!
ReplyDeleteOrange was my faaaavorite color as a tween, but it's really hard to disassociate it from those delightful prison jumpsuits.
ReplyDeleteI used to hate orange, mainly because I look gross in the color. But over time we have learned to respect one another and I now like the color because it brightens my day. We have it in our kitchen and my girls' room. I don't understand this cheap thing. I think the quality of something makes it cheap not the color how silly!
ReplyDeleteKatie, I believe that just goes to show that prison administrators have good taste in apparel.
ReplyDeleteOrange is my fave fave fave color. Nothing cheap about it ... have you been to the home depot? That place ain't cheap!
ReplyDeleteI've been an orange hater before, but over the last few years (since I started following your blog actually) I've warmed up to the color. I wear a lot of teal and purple and find it to be a great accent color. In design I like to use it because it's so much more gentle than red. Orange is also the color of our Interior Decor brand at work. Orange is #win for me!
ReplyDeleteOk, I was with you in your righteous anger until you took it out on poor little yellow. Yellow (http://bit.ly/e9A9sW) is (http://bit.ly/fpVjkz) AWESOME (http://bit.ly/fC596c)!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOrange is among one of my absolutely favorite colors- I admit I have a few favoites! :) For that matter so is brown. I wonder where they got their sampling for the survey? hmmm...
ReplyDeleteCheap, I do not understand. I think it's just the opposite... only the elite understand it and wear it/decorate with it!
ReplyDeleteActually, I knew the sad state of orange's repuation based on anecdotal information from asking around in first grade. And I chose it as my favorite precisely BECAUSE no one else seemed to like it. Losers. ;)
Guess my pumpkin orange and brown living room is doomed then, huh? LOL
ReplyDeleteORANGE is my favorite color! i love the brightness and the quirkiness. people just don't know how to appreciate something good when they see it.
ReplyDeleteUmmm... hurray for blue!!!!! ;)
ReplyDeleteBut orange is okay... it's growing on me. At least you and I complement each other. ;)
On a related note... and I just found this out recently... did you know that your brother's favorite color is also orange?! He says he liked it first.
My Dutch heart is orange, don't worry!
ReplyDeleteI dont belive in surveys, they never tell the truth. Mostly the opposite. I like all colors, orange as well, its beautifull and makes me think of tropical paradises. And its a very happy color. If i have to chose a favorite it would be brown accompanied with an other color, such as: pink, turquise, orange, green.
ReplyDelete/ A swedish reader
Mom, WHAT!?!?! No way. I think he's just making that up.
ReplyDeleteHaha! Thats outrageous!! All my friends arnt the least bit creative, and hate everything with a little color splash. Must be such a boring life!
ReplyDeleteI love mustard yellow, and have to endure endless comments on it. :)
And I love orange of course!!
Candace, congrats. I've been waiting for someone to jump on my yellow comment! Can I admit that most yellows are good? Just not pastel yellow. I can't do it. Can't. Cannot. I don't know why. I find it depressing.
ReplyDeletethat's simply hogwash. my house is full of BE-YOU-TI-FUL orange accents which make me smile every time i look around! in fact, i push an orange stroller and i'm so darn proud of it.
ReplyDeleteThis just makes me think of playing board games as a kid, no one wanted to be the yellow or orange, piece it was always the last one picked!! I personally love orange, and my room was even a nice bright orange! (recently painted over to a deeper turquoise, becasue the birghtness atracted those nasty lady bugs) Anywasy I really enjoy Orange!!
ReplyDeleteI love orange! But I guess your readership might be skewed.
ReplyDeleteOrange is my absolute favourite colour! And my husband's. Between the two of us it's quite embarrassing ... I have orange boots, we both have lots of orange clothing, we just bought a big orange leather sofa and to top it all off I'm begging him for an orange car!! ha ha! :)
ReplyDeleteOrange is my favorite too. Has been since I was a kid. The people polled are boring.
ReplyDeleteHe was quite serious when he said that. Just ask him!
ReplyDeleteBTW, pastel yellow is the only one tolerable. When I look at some of those brighter ones, I think "Oh, gaud!" (Especially if it's on a car.) ;)
Mum
To funny! and I adore Orange just so you know!
ReplyDeleteOrange is so my favorite color. My niece calles me the Orange lady because I call her the Pink girl, she always wears pink and I always wear.........ORANGE..orange rules
ReplyDeleteOur wedding colours were Brown, Orange and Yellow. We got the colour inspiration from Reese's Pieces (they were served at our reception).
ReplyDeleteI love orange! I've vowed to have a fabulous Orange & Light Gray Kitchen one day!
I LOVE orange, it's my absolute FAV!! Can't live without!! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be painting my office this weekend and have orange on the brain, probably because I spend so much time here. I'm thinking an orange / magenta combo? Kind of the color of the mango raspberry sorbet that my daughter had at Friendly's last night.
ReplyDeleteWell, obviously a large segment of the population need color education, lessons in taste, and probably just need their heads examined in general!!
ReplyDeleteCheap? That one baffles me! How can a color be cheap??
I think it's just a phase. I've seen some really lovely stuff coming out in orange lately - the average person will just follow whatever designers expose them to. ;) I love orange!
ReplyDeletethat's just crazy talk... :/
ReplyDeleteHa! They just don't want to admit they love orange. Growing up my mom didn't like orange so I thought I didn't like it either. Then I decided I could like any colors I wanted...I've painted whole rooms orange! Love your blog and I saw your ribbon at All Things Paper, it is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteStarting at the age of 2 my daughter began loving all things orange. Now age 6 she claims her favorite color is pink but she still actually leans towards orange... choosing it above all.
ReplyDeleteI love that she loves orange! :)
I understand your pain, orange is my favorite color too. Although, I think the tides are turning. I know a lot of kids that think orange is the best color. So maybe only old people hate it and young, cool people know its the best color around.
ReplyDeleteI grew up thinking that orange was a "cheap" color because that is what I was taught. Finally, by the age of 40ish, I was proud to be able to say that I love the color orange and I don't care if others think I'm tacky for it!
ReplyDeletei am sorry to say i have respect for the color orange for ONE reason and ONE reason alone.... i am a Texas Longhorn.
ReplyDeleteyou take the color orange (not my favorite) then burn it. Eww! Really, texas? Sad
BUT following your blog HAS given me a new appreciation for the color :) you should feel proud!
Well! Harumph! I don't quite 'hate' orange, so does that mean I'm not quite 'old' yet? I AM still pretty cool!!
ReplyDeleteLOL :)
Oh my, the only reason I am reading your blog is because it has orange in it!! My favorite colour too. Actually its peach but I was informed that peach is not a colour. Hmm, orange it is then.
ReplyDeletei will throw fresh oranges at them and they will be overwhelmed by the fragrance, the color, the...hardness!
ReplyDeleteOrange is my husbands favorite color. Therefore, I shall not worry about these silly findings and love orange forever!
ReplyDeleteI favor orange. Maybe it's because all three of my children and I have orange hair. Like any color, loveliness has much to do with the particular tint or hue. There are some less attractive oranges and greens and purples and reds and blues and yellows.
ReplyDeleteOrange is my favorite color. I think people are just jealous because it's a difficult color to wear.
ReplyDeleteOrange is my favourite colour followed closely by brown. Who were they polling? Those chart are clearly wrong.
ReplyDeleteThat is terrible! I love orange. It's why I started reading your blog. I think you are helping the cause quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteThis study is obviously wrong as orange is a fabulous color! Orange is a difficult color for many people to wear, however, so perhaps they are getting the two confused.
ReplyDeleteThis is just crazy!!!! Orange is the best. i might be partial though...
ReplyDeleteWell, yellow is my favorite color and has been for about 35 years....but, You. You, make Orange look good!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby's favorite color is orange! And, as an artist, I love all colors! No worries, some people just have no taste is all!
ReplyDeleteI think she must have been polling a bunch of Alabama Crimson Tide Fans - there are a lot of them that don't like orange and blue of Auburn!!!! LOL! But I do, even if I am an Alabama fan!
ReplyDeletemy favorite colors are all the least favorite on this pie chart...orange, brown and gray. whats wrong with them?
ReplyDeleteI painted my art room in orange and i am painting my nursery with orange, and it looks great! i am slowly converting orange haters into orange lovers!
http://notanemptyroom.blogspot.com/2011/03/house-tour-art-room-and-diy-pottery.html
What is wrong with these people?! Orange and brown is a perfect marriage of color! I can't believe those results... it's blasphemy.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger orange was my favorite color (cause I felt sorry for it...I'm a deeply emotional/big hearted person). :) Now yellow and red are my favorites, but my little sister's favorite color is orange! I bought her an orange crock pot for Christmas! She loved it!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you! And where is pink??
ReplyDeleteI LOVE ORANGE so much that I had 4 Orange Bridesmaids at our wedding. I had such a hard time finding orange dresses that summer of 2005. Funny thing is that Orange became the NEW PINK in 2006. ORANGE was everywhere that year!! My husband noticed that I was ahead of the trend. BTW all my girls looked Beautiful in that color and I had Blonde, Brunette, Dark skin, and Light skin girls. They all wore it well. And my pictures... I could go on about how FABULOUS ORANGE is.
ReplyDeleteWith most colors it is the shade and context of the color. I will say, as a general color, in the past couple of years orange has moved up to my second least favorite color (yellow being my least favorite now). But I'm not against either color. My craft room is orange and my bathroom is yellow!
ReplyDeleteI can kind of understand how a color seems "cheap" - I mean, I see hot pink and my first thought is Barbies, tweens and strippers... it kind of lends itself into a "cheap"-ish category for me. Though I've grown to appreciate it a bit more over the years.
ReplyDeleteI'm just baffled people say that about orange and brown! Guess it must be people who haven't had the pleasure of a beautiful fall day in a temperate climate! All those leaf-peepers must be missing some kind of taste level ;)
If it helps, orange is my favorite color! haha (along with grey, pale yellow, teal)
ReplyDeletei don't like red or purple.
That pie chart would look a LOT different if MAUVE was an option. Ew. Like those dirty colors from the mid 90's. "Dusty Rose". It's got a form of dirt in the name! There are holes in this research.
ReplyDelete{muttering}least favorite... i'll tell you who my least favorite is... that researcher's fat mom is my least favorite...
Personally? Am I taking this personally? No. Why do you ask?
I must say, as far as women go, I think we're highly influenced by what's trendy and popular- and orange hasn't made it down the runway in a while.
Forget "Malnutrition Awareness" (thank you wikipedia entry on awareness ribbons), wear an orange ribbon for "Orange is Awesome" awareness.
who are these people...
ReplyDeleteOrange is an amazing colour! It's my favorite too! They obviously didn't survey many of your blog readers.
ReplyDeleteBlasphemy indeed!
Have no fear...this pie chart only represents people who actually will allow themselves to be surveyed....orange rules!
ReplyDeleteOur school colors are orange and white...we have no choice but to love it!
ReplyDeleteI love lemon yellow! I like orange, but I'm picky about it.
ReplyDeleteDon't be hating on lemon yellow - it says I am a happy bright sunshiny person! :)
ReplyDeleteBrown should have had most of the votes...not that I don't love brown to wear, but as a color in general. Poop
Nuff said
No Way!!! Why Orange is my FAVOURITE colour! Poison purple should be the least loved.
ReplyDeleteCheck out cheapchicas.com beautiful pair of orange trousers!!!
ReplyDeleteWHo do they poll anyway? I didn't get polled!
ReplyDeleteI think orange took a nosedive when they discovered it stimulated the appetite. It appeared in several fast food restaurants soon after, accentuating that "cheap" factor. I happen to love orange, and painted a living/dining room wall true orange. I have to laugh when recalling the conversation with the paint store salesman. "So, you are painting a kid's room?" "No" I replied. "Well, it is awful bright" he answers. "It is for my living room". "You know, it is awful bright". I don't think he believed me, lol. It got loads of compliments, and my friends were actually sorry to see it go (however, they never were that bold...go figure). But I love lots of different colors, and the wall is currently Chartreuse.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool article--and yes, BLASPHEMY! I love orange, but my FAV is yellow--which also is perceived to be a "cheap" color. What?!
ReplyDeleteI know purple is the color of royalty, but I'd say it's the cheapest and ugliest color ever.
So there.
no. no. no. no. I´m orange (red) haired - so what do I have to think about THAT?? and what about all the brown haired people? so sad... ;-)))
ReplyDeleteWHAT??? Orange is the best color ever!!
ReplyDeleteOrange and brown are my favorite colors... and cheap is not a word I use to describe myself!
ReplyDeleteHonestly!!!!!! Orange is beautiful!!!! I love, love, love it!
ReplyDeleteSurveys are totally inaccurate! hehe
Those people are crazy. Orange is the best color of all.
ReplyDeleteWow that is crazy! And I agree with so many that left comments. How can someone not like the color brown? All good things are brown... it the color of chocolate, my husband and eldest son's eyes and hair, its the color of my hair, the color of leather... And ORANGE too? What is WRONG with these people?! IN all honesty brown and orange and aqua blue are probably my favorite colors. Maybe it has something to do with living in Germany as a child... Trust me they knew good colors when they saw them!!
ReplyDeleteOrange is my very favorite color!
ReplyDeleteI spend a lot of time saying "YEAH! how ABOUT orange??" and just stare at it scattered throughout my house.
My recently adopted outdoor cat is even NAMED Orange. Okay, so.. that's nature+laziness on my part. But, it suits him.
Have a great day!
Hannah
This is extremely weird. This morning I was taking a shower and I was thinking exactly that my least favorite color was orange for a long time and that since I use it a lot and it fits wonderful in most pictures it doesn't have any sense any more (I didn't think it was cheap at all, I relate it to some ex boyfriend who wear it a lot) but anyway it's the weirdest causality that happens to me in a long time to find this just today.
ReplyDeleteIt's just as well. It leaves orange and yellow for us thinking-out-of-the-box folks.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to know just who funded this study because I happen to have very expensive tastes and also be very fond of orange. I'm sure it was funded by white. No one really likes white. We just pretend we do so we don't hurt white's feelings...
ReplyDeleteAlso, my room used to be a pumpkin orange. Everyone loved it.
ReplyDeleteOrange, brown and green are colours that I love. I also love blue and pink but in antique shades, not bright or pastel.
I really only like red when it's the colour of a car.
Orange = Hermes
Brown = Louis Vuitton
Lighten up it's just fashion! ;)
(I hope someone understands that reference otherwise I just look crazy...)
I think if pink were an option on the survey the results would be different.
ReplyDeleteBlasphemy!
ReplyDeleteThat´s blasphemy, I DO agree!! I love love orange. A cheap color??? I could call green or blue cheap colors... but orange? NEVER!!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely NOT cheap

ReplyDeleteI LOVE orange!
craziness. I think the whole wheel should be purple. I love orange & gray!
ReplyDeleteGASP - That is pure insanity... There is no better color! Power to the orange!
ReplyDeleteI love orange and so do my little girls. It's great to not have pink as the first preference every time. I just went to a craft gathering called "Sew It Together" here in Sydney and the theme colours were orange, brown and yellow. Was great fun - all our (handmade) nametags were in those colours.
ReplyDeleteThose people have no imagination! My very favorite is green, followed by orange. I'm not worried...more for us!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm always disappointed that purple gets a bad rap!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like both sides don't like orange, brown and yellow which makes me think we are still recovering from the 70s ;)

I disagree with EVERYTHING this has to say. Except for the colour naming bit. I like to do that a lot. But EVERYTHING ELSE.
ReplyDeletehonestly, I HATE the color orange.. I don't like most yellows either but I can tolerate a few.. I think it's something about the boldness of it... I think it's like screaming "look at me!" and I've never liked anyone looking at me lol...I will pick any other color I can over orange..
ReplyDeleteI do like this blog though.. sorry
So sorry, I grew up in a house where everything was brown and orange in the 70s and I have this long and deep-seated aversion to the two.
ReplyDeleteAbout a decade ago, I read about a study: people were dressed in different solid colored shirts. They walked through a crowded sidewalk, smiling. More people smiled back when the shirt-wearer had on an orange shirt. The study concluded that orange was the friendliest color.
ReplyDeleteI don't care if other people don't love orange. I've been marching to my own drum for half a century now. Why should my color choices be any different?
(must confess, sunny golden yellow is my #1, orange follows in 2nd place. Although come to think of it, that golden is sort of the place where yellow meets orange...)
Oh, one more thing: Here's a link to a picture of the orange monastery that is the Dalai Lama's North American seat.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.buddhistchannel.tv/index.php?id=60,5929,0,0,1,0
You know what color I can't stand? WHITE. If I see one more photo of a totally white interior -- yuck. Who can live in a sterile environment like that?
Amen, sister! Growing up in a town wear I had to wear a black and orange gym uniform...I hated orange! But as I matured something happened...I LOVE ORANGE!! I cannot get enough of it :D
ReplyDeleteWell just this very day, my 5 year old brought home his "about me" page from preschool. His favorite color? Orange! It's the color of youth! You're just ahead of your time.
ReplyDeleteI have an awesome orange cardigan I picked up at Target a little before bright colors came back and I swear EVERY time I wear it I get compliments from both men and women. I think people like orange more than they realize, they are just not gutsy enough to pull it off. I <3 orange! Totally my fav color right now!
ReplyDeleteColors, to me, are like my children (if I had a whole bunch) . . . I can't possibly love one more than another, although some may be easier to get along with.
ReplyDeleteeeeekkkkkkkk how horrible!! Ornage is totally the COOLEST colour!
ReplyDeleteWhat!!!!! it is such a happy colour!!! I love orange- wearing my favourite orange sweater today! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThis is SO WRONG.
ReplyDeleteOrange is the best.
L'orange est la plus belle couleur du monde ! Celle de la joie, de l'été et de l'automne !
ReplyDeleteI was coming of age back in the early 70's when everything was orange, brown and green. I HATED them all. Such an ugly combination in everything as time went by and it WAS perhaps the beginning of cheap mass manufactering. I still do not like 70's color combos, though I cherish the 70's overall. I still do not like orangey-orange in large amounts, but I do love the new ranges of orange, the pumpkins, pumpernickles, and spice colors. Pure orange. No. I do see it as a color of energy but small doses go a long way. So you see there is an association behind that "cheap" analogy. Newer generations will have a different take on it, a different association.
ReplyDeleteWell, you, undoubtly, make orange look too cool for school!
ReplyDeleteI just painted my kitchen orange- my husband was a bit nervous at first, but now we both love it- good think he trusts me! I wanted it to be warm and cozy, and it worked out great!
ReplyDeleteI'm fine with people not being as fond of orange... it means more for those of us who love it! It's my second favorite color (behind purple) but my favorite color to wear. It looks great with my coloring AND I can always find it on the clearance rack! Win-Win!
ReplyDeleteYou of all people hate lemon yellow? But someone who like lemon yellow is much more likely to love orange, in my experience..
ReplyDeleteI agree though, these are shocking results. Obviously your readership wasn't consulted.
Orange is a tough color to pull off, maybe people are afraid of it more than they dislike it? I grew up moving a lot, which means everything was always "relocation beige" - boooring. Orange takes a risk, and when done well - how can it not make you smile? It also has a special place in my heart because it's the only color my daughter incorrectly named in her preschool color test. She called it Home Depot!
ReplyDeleteOrange is our family color and I would never consider it cheap. Is it weird we have a family color? No, as I sit in my orange bedroom and type this.
ReplyDeleteLove the color orange. In fact Yellow is my favorite color and orange is my second favorite color.
ReplyDeleteOrange cheap? I don't really understand... Well, three that I love are on the list: Green (all-time fave), gray and orange. Another that I like it the oh-so-girlie pink!
ReplyDeleteOrange is my favorite color! and what great timing. I made this treasury list on Etsy yesterday dedicated to my true love of orange!
ReplyDeleteI am personally happy that it is more in vogue now, five or so years ago, it was tough to find anything orange. Now at least people make things in orange :)
Can´t stand the color orange but still love your blog! Greetings, Lalobe
ReplyDeleteCheap? What's up with that? I LOVE orange, especially when combined with Chicago maroon! And it's great on its own or as an accent with my other favorite color, turquoise. Funny story about yellow...it was my best friend's favorited color when she was younger -- she felt sorry for yellow because no one liked it.
ReplyDeleteOrange is fun! Orange is warm! Orange is...well, it's orange!! I've always loved orange. My house is full of orange. I get compliments on it all the time. Now I have to worry that people are just being nice when they really think it looks cheap? Nah, I live in Wisconsin, where blaze orange is the fashionable color of choice ever November (for deer hunting). It feels cozy in this northern climate during winter. And adds a bit of tropical punch during the summer.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you! Orange is a fine color... so fine a color my husband is having an electric motorcycle custom painted in a fabulous metallic orange (he owns a business selling electric bikes/motorcycles/mopeds)... the color is amazing and is one of those chameleon colors that looks red at times and orange at other times. That little orange and white Christmas ornament you made is really terrific... that should make anyone an orange lover!
ReplyDeleteFunny because a year ago I would have said orange was my least fav colour and today I count it as one of my fav colours...I used to dislike it with a passion but now love it...funny how tastes change.
ReplyDeleteHugs Khris
Orange is lovely, warm, yummy... they're NUTS!
ReplyDeleteWeighing in as a man, I will say that a cursory flip through my closet, and home in general, will show that brown and orange are my two favorite colors. In fact, I am wearing both together as I type this.
ReplyDeleteFrank Lloyd Wright was definitely on to something when choosing autumnal colors for so many of his projects.
Ah but all colours are beautiful if put with the right combinations! As the old adage goes, it's what you do with it that counts...! :p
ReplyDeleteoutrageous!!! orange is my fave color since I can remember... cheap??? NEVA!!!
ReplyDeleteyellowish poopy brown really needs to be at the very bottom of that list.
ReplyDeleteha ha. bottom.
I adore orange. They forgot to poll me.
Anyone who hates orange has not seen my living room. It faces east and I painted it in ICI/Dulux African Tulip. On a sunny day, when the sun comes up, it looks like the sunrise exploded in my living room - and it makes me VERY happy!
ReplyDeleterouquinne in London, Canada
Well there goes my brand...
ReplyDeleteI guess its just not one of the 'safe' colours, we are brought up thinking that blue are for boys and pink for girls. Never orange!! BUT orange still remain my fave colour. Absolutely orange!
ReplyDeletei would just like to point out that brown, orange, and gray are my favorite colors to combine. this survey is surely flawed.
ReplyDeleteWho ever said such things is obviously showing men and women the wrong shade of Orange... I think it's a fabulous color, just need to find the "right" orange! Which they apparently don't know!
ReplyDeleteOrange is a rebellious color to me - plus it compliments favorite color blue. I love orange. That is completely why I had to bring this matter to light. I think the "right" thing to do is question the methodologies used for this survey. The results are obviously flawed.
ReplyDeleteWhen everyone likes something, I always wonder how much they really like it, and how much they are just following the crowd. Baaaaaaaaaaa......
ReplyDeleteIt suits me just fine that most people aren't that fond of orange!
Orange is a "cheap" color? Wow. To me it's a very "powerful" color. Are us orange lovers backwards or is everyone else just clueless? ;)
ReplyDeleteI spent many years unable to forgive orange after I figured out how terrible it looked on me. In terms of clothing and makeup, it's by far the least flattering for my colouring. Somehow this grew to encompass all orange items, but I'm slowly starting to regain a liking for it.
ReplyDeleteI'll admit that I was almost put off this blog by the name! But I soon realised how beautiful it was (yes, even the orange things) and now I'm hooked. You've certainly helped me along the path to orange appreciation :-)
Orange is a happy colour! It is not too red, nor yellow. A colour of balance! I am going to click the orange 'publish your comment' button now, and feel slightly happier after doing so because it's orange :D
ReplyDeletePS: I like green and cream and blue and brown too.
OMGoodness! Orange is by far my favourite colour ( right now ) and I agree that lemon yellow is far worse!
ReplyDeleteI hate to admit this to you, but I LOATHE the color orange. But I love your site!
ReplyDeleteOrange is fabulous. It's the color of oranges, sunsets, leaves in fall, big beautiful pumpkins, fluffy kittens, adorable children's hair. Orange is good.
ReplyDeleteI live for orange as it is so unexpected to be my favorite color choice (preppy Irish catholic Bostonnian...I actually found your site in my love of love all things orange...but I think that the Legally Blonde sentiment sums up many (SAD) opinions "Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed.”
ReplyDeleteOrange is my son's favorite color. He only liked red because it's close to orange. It's been his favorite since he was a baby. I grew up with a serious dislike for orange because of it's association with football in my family. It's growing on me, though. See- look- my arm is turning orange.
ReplyDeleteI love orange. It's goes with everything.
ReplyDeleteThis made me laugh out loud. Here you are with your orange banner and *supposedly* nobody likes it. Coming from someone with an orange kitchen table... ORANGE ROCKS! Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteNonsense. Just ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteI believe this is partly related to seventies design. Orange was everywhere, and peopole were fed up with orange. So in the end of the decade, catalogues and fashion brands had to call it "apricot", "tangerine" if they wanted to sell something in this shade.
ReplyDeleteFor the longest time, orange was my favorite color. And then I moved to the desert and I realized that the color that I really missed was green. I breathe in deep and stand in awe of landscapes that are green whenever I see them now. But orange is a close second.
ReplyDeleteI think it strongly depends on where you use orange... my living room is kept completely in orange, but I would rather not wear orange clothes.
ReplyDeletemy car is a Honda Fit w/"Blazing" orange. it is such an eye-catcher on the highway (esp in the summer!), and i love love love love love it the attention! the other copycat cars that have a brownish orange tint can't compare. like you quoted Frank Sinatra: orange = happy!
ReplyDeleteand how much cooler is it that there's no rhyme to the word, either. what else says UNIQUE if not that!
go orange!!
Can you tell how much I love orange http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2zNAqAFE3s
ReplyDeleteHigh five, Sandra! :)
ReplyDelete
