Based on two colors, a visual hint, and a cryptic verbal clue, see how many of the world's brands you can identify in this quiz. I got a respectable 18 out of 21, but I'm still scratching my head over the ones I missed. Via Brand New.
Update: The answers are in one of the comments here. (Thanks, Jan!) Now I will sleep better tonight.
Starbucks!
ReplyDeleteUm, wow! I don't know if I should be glad or sad that I could only get 6. I wish they would tell you what the right answers are.
ReplyDeleteI only got 5 and one was just a lucky guess b/c I saw coffe beans.
ReplyDeleteBe glad. I know, I want the answers, too! What's the Brazilian river, anyhow? Oh, duh. It just came to me right this second as I typed that. I never noticed that orange was one of their brand colors.
ReplyDeleteImmediately starbucks came to mind. I see all my coworkers drinking from the the green & brown labels on a daily basis and I think, "$$$$ that could be used for a vacation instead of some pricey beans" ;)
ReplyDelete12 but I want to know what the answers are to the ones I missed!
ReplyDeleteI failed! I got a whopping 3! That was hard!
ReplyDeleteI got 15, but I am so incredibly stumped on the others. I am going to be trying to figure that out all day. Have you ever seen this: http://www.xrite.com/custom_page.aspx?PageID=77
ReplyDeleteMy friend is a professional photo editor, and I guess they often make you take one of these before you are hired. She scored an 8, I got a 16. Boo.
Those were hard! It's going to drive me crazy not being able to see the correct answers :)
ReplyDeleteOnly 4 for me! but I only spent a few seconds on each and not sure i'm that aware of brands. Very clever test tho.
ReplyDeleteAnd fun, I'll have to get dh to try it later.
And o der the Brazilian river. I got it when I re red Jess' comment!
Thanks!
Kathy
I got 16 and skipped the rest...tough!
ReplyDeleteI just took the hue test and apparently I rock with color vision! :D

That was fun! I like it when you post these quizzes. I got 20 correct. Some of them took a bit of time to figure out, but they seem so obvious once you get it! I was on the right track for the one I missed, just didn't give myself enough time to think about it.
ReplyDelete19/21 Another fun quiz - thanks Jess! Did anyone get the one with the tire tracks in sand?
ReplyDeleteIt took a while and a bit of googling, but here is what I came up with:
ReplyDelete(SPOILER - don't look if you want to do the quiz!)
Amazon, Ikea, PayPal, Shell, Starbucks, Harley Davidson, Cadbury, Nokia, Nintendo, Caterpillar, Coca Cola, Hertz, Blockbuster, Fed Ex, Gap, McDonalds, BP, Virgin, Yahoo, Visa, London 2012
"Hey, don't you want to white wash this fence? It's so fun!"
ReplyDeleteBrilliant - they get to test brand recognition for a low cost and people will participate because its a game. The brands that get the lowest number of correct answers can see that they have some work to do. BTW - I got 17. :)
Hmm...I thought that would be easy, but only got 16. Harder than I thought.
ReplyDeleteI really liked that color hue quiz, though. Thanks, Emily Claire!
(spoiler) CADBURY!! That's the one I missed! Whether it was a sneaky marketing tactic or no, I still enjoyed it. I went back and retook it just to stare at the Cadbury one for a while and I STILL didn't get it.
ReplyDeleteI got 13 on that test but a perfect score on the hue test!
ReplyDeletei got 21/21 on my second try but there are ones that still stump me (i missed 3, i think, but they still gave me 21/21?)
ReplyDelete17 on the first try. Those were hard. Maybe i'll go back and try again....
ReplyDeleteHahaha! 6 here. I knew I'd do badly.
ReplyDeleteway to easy: Starbucks!
ReplyDeleteAnd that's the easiest question in the quiz. :)
ReplyDeleteI posted that one to give everyone confidence.
ReplyDelete20! I'm really impressed. Did not think I'd do so well. Of course the one I missed was McDonald's! I couldn't believe it.
ReplyDeleteI only got cadbury because they've been airing those commercials like crazy lately. Milky centers, purple wrappers... It clicked, even though it took some time.
This was so fun and a great idea. I shutter to think how many thousands of my dollars Starbucks has in their coffers. Oy.
ReplyDeletehmm...I got 10 and I lived in the forest for a decade which is sort of scary....it's so pervasive...oi.
ReplyDeleteOnly 10 for me. Wow, that quiz was a toughie.
ReplyDeleteWOW that was hard! I got a grand total of three... And I will spend the rest of the day wondering what all the other are!!
ReplyDelete13. i feel defeated. and I still wanna know what i got wrong.
ReplyDeletedid you get the last one?
ReplyDeleteJan left the answers in a comment above. Thank goodness!
ReplyDeleteHuh. I put in Dairy Milk but it wouldn't accept it. I know Cadbury use that purple on a lot of their products, but not all of them, and the pouring milk is definitely specific to Dairy Milk. On the other hand, it did let me have Olympics for the London 2012 clue, which is odd because I really couldn't see how those colours were part of the Olympic brand. Fun quiz, though.
ReplyDeleteThis was awesome! I got 17 out of 21 which surprised me (thought it would be lower). Now to find out the answers to the ones I missed!
ReplyDeleteoh so that was milk !
ReplyDeletegot a 13 out of 21 and i'm proud of it ! didn't think i'll make as much!!
Hello,
ReplyDeleteTheo from VYRE here (the guy to blame for the quiz). I just want to say thank you all very much for playing it. Just to pick up on something that Laura said:
"Brilliant - they get to test brand recognition for a low cost and people will participate because its a game. The brands that get the lowest number of correct answers can see that they have some work to do. BTW - I got 17. :)"
I promise you that we're not analysing or doing market research on your scores at all - it really is just for fun. The 'promotional' aspect of the quiz is that we (VYRE) put together really awesome brand asset management systems for big brands, and since we look after all the colours and assets and logos and bits and pieces that make up a brand all in one place, we thought that a quiz along the same lines would be a fun way to get the word out.
So, nothing devious going on with your data, I promise.
And 17 is a good score! :)
theo
That was so difficult...I only got 13 and some of those were pure luck. Sheesh...I guess I'm not a very good consumer.
ReplyDeleteI definitely needed the verbal hints. I can't believe I didn't get Coca Cola! For years my boyfriend/husband drank 2 liters a day. I ended up at 13/21. London 2012 isn't even on my radar yet.
ReplyDeleteBoooo :( I only got 10 :P I knew I lived under a figurative turnip. What an interesting quiz.
ReplyDeleteI got a grand total of 16, now they can nail down which ones didn't do so well and then these guys can pitch to them.
ReplyDeleteSigh, fun anyhow. :)
PS -> The Word Verification is asking me to type: Turdlogr
Hahahaa.
lol, this is clever!!
ReplyDeleteStarbucks (I wonder if they would be up to changing their name to astraldeers!) would be a cool spin off shop.

I got 12. Thanks Jan for posting the answers. I can't believe I missed the ones that I did!!!
ReplyDeleteI failed the test. No biggie. It just means that I am not so influenced by advertising and branding...
ReplyDeleteWOW, I got 13!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have now read all the answers here .... I had a good laugh with the visual hint of Nokia (didn't get it), or the 'painful rental'. I did get the hint BCN= Barcelona, but not the rest of the cities. That was a really tough!
Wow, that is too funny! I didn't do too bad with 8 right since we don't watch TV or have subscriptions to any mainstream newspapers or magazines!! Oddly enough Starbucks and Ikea were no brainers... not that I shop at either place but really like their products! The written clues were the biggest help though.
ReplyDeleteI was for dang sure that last one was Flickr! The colors are exact, and they used a flame as the photo. I haven't seen any of the London 2012 ads before this.
ReplyDelete"winner, winner, chicken dinner!"
ReplyDeletehee hee hee
I got a low 5 :( but does that mean i'm not mad about brands ;)
ReplyDeleteI want to see all the answers too!
was one of them Burt's bees? it wouldn't take my answer...
I still think the last one is Flickr, not London 2010.
ReplyDelete20/21. i tried putting flickr in like 5 times for the last one before i figured it out. i missed number 15... still have no idea what it is.
ReplyDeletei got 18 on the first try! i still didn't get the last one, i kept putting in flickr too!
ReplyDeleteI'm terrible at these. I drink Starbucks all the time and I pondered astral deer for about 15 minutes. Lame.
ReplyDeleteI got 16 the first time through, 18 the second. I can't believe I didn't get Coca Cola! Yikes! I am still scratching my head at the Cadbury clue...
ReplyDeleteI got 17...they also accepted "olympics" for the last one (which I only figured out because of the hint). Someone else is right though, those are Flickr colors!
ReplyDelete18/21 ahhh GAP didnt get that one would be ashaned if I got any lower since I studied GD only grad in 06 and studied branding and identity quite extensively only reason why I knew so many.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear the answers!
ReplyDeleteThat was fun! I always enjoy the quizzes you post!
ReplyDeleteI was certain the last one was Flickr..... so much so that I typed it, erased it, and typed it again like 3 times thinking it was a computer error! 12 out of 21! Tough quiz!
ReplyDeleteYou got 18??? Wow ~ I only got 8....
ReplyDeleteI got only 7, but then again, I am living in the Netherlands so a lot of brands that were showed I don´t know. But I missed coca-cola and that´s a shame!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, the Fed Ex clue actually made me groan out loud. That was fun thanks! 15/21 isn't too bad I suppose.
ReplyDeleteAnyone spotted what happens if you type in VYRE as an answer?
ReplyDeleteI laughed!
Ha! Just tried it.
ReplyDeleteI got 16/21 right first try. I am a visual person, so it helped to ignore the writing and focus on the colors and image. I am so glad someone posted the rest of the answers here or I would go crazy trying to figure it out lol.
ReplyDeletefunnest part of my day!
ReplyDeletexo.
Well I did 8. In a sense I am proud I did not score better...
