Somehow I ended up at Marie Claire Idées and found this zippered pouch project, which is explained in French. If you need help deciphering it, use Google Translate. But as far as I can tell, you can download a PDF of the image they use on the pouch. Print it on iron-on inkjet transfer paper (available at craft stores and your standard office supply stores, like Office Max, etc.) Then iron the image onto plain white cotton and sew it into a little zippered bag. (Here's a sewing tutorial if you need help.) Their downloadable photograph even has a tag in it where you can use a permanent pen to write the recipient's name. I think.
I love this idea, because you could take photos of your own stuff or toss some items on the scanner, then make totally customized bags as gifts. It would also be fun to make little bags from the vintage labels in this Flickr set.

You find the coolest stuff, Jess!
ReplyDeleteYou can save yourself a couple of steps by printing directly onto inkjet printable fabric.
ReplyDeleteCute idea.
Wow, a very cool idea, thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! I was looking at something like this for my Christmas present but now I can make my own, yay!

I just did something like this this afternoon but with vintage paper doll images from flikr instead...I like this idea though! I was trying to think of a way to make a box pouch with mustache's on it for a nephew and completely forgot I could do it this way too! I'm such a fool!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! Is THAT what you're making me for Christmas?!?
ReplyDeleteYou could do the same sort of thing for a tote bag, too -- and you could scan your items directly, if they are all relatively flat.
ReplyDeleteI love this! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks to you, I have been wallowing in nostalgia for the past hour. Being French, I know Marie-Claire Idées, of course (I used to buy it when I still lived in France), but it suddenly reminded me of a wonderful magazine I used to read religiously in the '70s. It was called 100 idées and it was absolutely wonderful. I found a blog dedicated to it (with scanned pages, etc.). Here's the URL: http://les-centidealistes.over-blog.com/categorie-10901488.html. For those who read French. :-)
ReplyDeletePS. I've just realised: of course, 100 idées was La Maison de Marie-Claire's little brother. LOL!
ReplyDeleteDo you (or anyone out there) know if you can use the inkjet paper / fabric transfer stuff in a laserjet printer?
ReplyDeleteSo cool ! And as I'm french, I will have a look at Marie Claire Idées website ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the find !
