Think you can tell Arial from Helvetica? Take this quiz, in which David Friedman found 20 logos originally designed with Helvetica and swapped it with Arial. Your job is to pick out the original. Have fun. (Via Swiss Miss.)
18 of 20 for me. Blew it on MATTEL and STAPLES. The end of Arial letters are slanted where Helvetica is flat. Except that didn't show so well in STAPLES... not sure why. And nothing of help in MATTEL.
I got 15/20, i'm really proud to be only one point behind you, Jess ;) I got Mattel right but I had troubles with some brands that i don't see here in Italy, but i'm quite satisfied. :)
When you don't tell us how YOU did on the quiz, does that mean it was bad? ;-)
ReplyDeleteI got 16 out of 20. I kept using lowercase t's as my guide, so words like MATTEL totally threw me off. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was the all caps that gave me trouble too. 17/20
ReplyDelete15/20 for me...although I'm no design buff so I count that as pretty good. :-)

ReplyDeleteI got 17/20.. Caps definitely made things difficult!
ReplyDeleteI got 18/20. Mattel was hard!
ReplyDelete19/20! BASF got me. It's nice to know my typography classes haven't been for nothing!
ReplyDeleteI got 16 out of 20. Pretty good I thought.
ReplyDeleteHmph. 17 out of 20. But it wasn't really because I could tell the difference so much as I could recognize the correct logo. :)
ReplyDelete16/20, but that was with help from the internet!
ReplyDelete19/20. Dang Mattel.
ReplyDeleteBTW, just saw your fabrics here:

Jess, I did exactly the same lol. Are you going to the AIGA conference this year?
ReplyDelete15 out of 20, way better than I thought I would get (which would be 0 out of 20!)
ReplyDeleteGreat Quiz- it's ruined any positive feelings I ever had for Mattel though!
ReplyDelete18/20 But I have just sent this to hubby, who is a Helvetica nut (Web designer) - he will probably get a perfect score!
ReplyDeleteIt was quick and fun.
My college typography teacher would have LOVED this! I might have to email it to him haha - thanks for sharing!
ReplyDelete20/20! The hardest one for me was Mattel. Caps is tough!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how many logos are in Helvetica! I missed the all caps ones. They were hard. 17 out of 20
ReplyDeleteI got 15/20. I'm actually pretty pleased with myself.
ReplyDeleteI did terribly on the all caps but got all the others. Interesting that everyone's saying the same thing.
ReplyDeleteI managed 19/20. Messed up on Agfa!
ReplyDeletewow, that did a trick on my eyes!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun!!! I never knew that spotting Helvetica could be so hard!
