I'm pondering Roman shades lately, after seeing a couple DIY tutorials on the world wide interweb. Maybe our orange room could benefit. (This shade in there is flimsy. And any excuse to use fabric makes me happy.) Check out a project by Jennifer Hagler based on an inexpensively purchased Roman shade, or try this project made from an old set of mini blinds at Little Green Notebook.

I have JUST started looking at ways to dress up windows with blinds, curtains, roman shades and more. It's like you read my mind ;D Thanks for the links, checking 'em out now!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog.....and your flair for color. I've just added you to my "creative friends" I follow...
ReplyDeleteI say "go for it!" I've heard they're pretty simple to put together.
ReplyDeleteI have terrible mini-blinds in the bathroom and bare windows in the dining room. These DIY blinds are the perfect low-cost fix - excited to give it a try!
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this. I love your blog. I look forward to more tutorials and new "useful resources!"
ReplyDeleteI've been contemplating making some roman shades! Thanks so much for the post... I love the reuse of the mini blinds and have three "victims" already in mind... now to find the fabric. (:
ReplyDeleteI love the way roman shades look, nice and modern! I say go for it!
ReplyDeleteWanted to let you know that I love my orange bird print Target chair. LOVE. It smells like bandaids and my elderly cat snoozes on it almost every day, so she, too, smells like bandaids, but the chair is divine.
ReplyDeleteYea! I was just researching how to make these yesterday. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHeels, thanks for the chair report. I wondered if those were as nice in person as they were on the website! And, well, I guess there are worse things than Bandaids for it to smell like.
ReplyDeleteYou simply must make some. They're really not difficult and would show your gorgeous designs off to their best!
ReplyDeleteIt's easier to make blinds with a geometric pattern rather than plain or random I find, so yours should be a breeze - especially with your talent!!
You can really go to town on the beads for the cord too! ;-)
LOVE them! Yep Jenn has the greatest ideas!
ReplyDeleteI have to second Susan's recommendation for the Jen Duncan tutorial...the instructions are so simple and easy, and I plan to make a set for my new kitchen.
ReplyDeleteI like to make Top-down shades. They are more work, but worth the effort. Privacy+Light! Here's the photo on my blog: http://theklubb.blogspot.com/2009/03/top-down-shades.html
ReplyDeleteI took a community ed class a few years ago to make roman blinds for our 2nd bedroom. If I hadn't made insulated, I think I could have figured it out myself, but it was fun, and they turned out great. It was a fun way to spend a few hours with a friend!
ReplyDeleteoooh!
ReplyDeleteI have be searching google all day and this is the best diy roman shade around. Thank for posting!!
