Awhile back, reader Kate sent over a link to this project idea from Cookie Magazine: paint mismatched chairs the same color to make a dining set. I like the 12" of unpainted legs on each piece. Note they carefully chose wood tones that matched each other, or the set might have turned out a little crazy looking. And kudos to Cookie for choosing an excellent paint color.

I just posted my love of paint!! It is the best way to change something in a big way for little money!! I love this idea-the color-faboo!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is so cool, especially the 12" of unpainted legs. And yes, the color is perfect!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I'm in need of a 5th chair in the kitchen (bought the set before we had the 3rd baby) and I'm stuck as to what to do. don't want to buy an entire new set, since this one is good. So...maybe I'll have to mix in maybe 2 chairs in this painted way. maybe it'll look like it was meant to be. hmmmmm
ReplyDeleteThis is such a wonderful idea. I am trying to think of ideas for dining room sets and was thinking of going with the whole "each chair is different" thing. This is a great way to bring them all together!
ReplyDeleteI think this is such a cute way to make mismatched chairs work! I had a set of four mismatched chairs in my apartment in all different colors. When we bought a house we painted them all black. I love the look, but it would have been even better had I thought of leaving all of the legs like this!

I love the mismatched idea all painted the same, but I gotta say, not lovin' the unpainted legs; seems unfinished or something. Maybe if that part were painted another tone of the same color or something....
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% with BJ. Love the idea, but the unfinished bottom portion does seem weird to me.
ReplyDeleteNeat how that ties them all together!
ReplyDeleteCUTE! I love this look so much more than the matchy-matchy set. I saw something similar in Domino with dark brown paint.
ReplyDeleteI think this would work with mis-matched toned woods if you primed adequately.
This idea is so fun. I'll keep it in mind when I move next summer. I'd love to paint my kitchen yellow and this theme could go really well with it.
ReplyDeleteThe 12" up thing is brilliant.
ReplyDeleteyes yes yes!!!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love dining room chairs that only match in colour. And I love orange too!
ReplyDeleteI am in the process of doing this at the moment, always wanted to since watching Monica's kitchen in friends....but never thought of doing the highchair too. I have white paint ready but seeing these I now want to go brighter!
ReplyDeleteSeriously awesome idea!
ReplyDeleteoh how fun! I wanted to do something similar in my single days when I lived alone, but never got around to it. Reminds me of FRIENDS Monica's table was all mismatchy chairs and I loved it!
ReplyDeleteI love these chairs...
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine painted four different chairs in four different colors that go great together...it's pretty cute! She should have done one in orange though :) Here are her chairs having a day at the beach: http://www.caitlinblaze.com/#a=0&at=0&mi=2&pt=1&pi=10000&s=0&p=3
ReplyDeleteOn my yard sale list for this summer:
ReplyDelete- mismatched chairs with good lines
TO PAINT PINK.
(sorry, but orange won't go in our kitchen. My living room, however would welcome a bit more of the bright stuff...)
We did this to four chairs (we painted them cream) a few weeks after we got married 7 years ago and it worked out just fine until we could afford something a little bit nicer!
ReplyDeleteI can tell that you really love orange..lol.. Nice blog!
ReplyDeletethis is such a fabulous idea! what a fun and unique way to make a one-of-a-kind collection :)
ReplyDeletei love this!!! what a cute idea!
ReplyDeleteThis weekends mission: garage sale for chairs.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. perfect for the woman who has had benches for her dining table and now need to quickly but inexpensively move to chairs. and the quirky style is most befitting.
Love the yellow walls! Oh, a Windowseat is soooo cool idea, but for my room they would have to be a bite wider =)
ReplyDeleteooops, i wrote my comment for your other post on the wrong window. now these red chairs adorable!
