Going to Quilt Market

It turns out there's going to be a last-minute Jessica Jones booth at the International Quilt Market in Houston in a couple weeks. Caroline Devoy of JCaroline Creative is feverishly upholstering things and printing things and ordering things and sewing things, probably right at this exact minute. She is one amazing woman. Meanwhile, I sit up here in Chicago feeling guilty that I'm not more help.

I've never been to a fabric trade show before, so I'm not sure what to expect. I checked out the Quilt Market website to learn more, and the very first link on the page is for scooter rentals. Awesome. I should probably reserve one for Caroline since she'll be very tired by then. And I'm working on my quilted vest and appliqued pants right now. Oh, and I whipped up some postcards to give away as freebies at our booth, #116.

(I should add that this trade show is not open to the general public, just fabric stores and vendors and such. Bummer. Maybe I can have the rest of you all over to my apartment when I get back. I wish!)

  4. I think I'm going to have to ditch my hubby and make the 4 hour drvie to Houston from Dallas. I'm too close and have no excuse not to go. I love reading your blog! Your stuff is amazing :)

  7. I attended spring market in Portland. Fabulous...and overwhelming. I would love to be in Houston, but although I won't be there, my first published pattern will be (Charm Parade published by JWD)--which I can't wait to make in your new fabrics, by the way. Have a great time and enjoy every minute. Your fabrics are amazing and this is perfect opportunity to let other people discover you.

I am going too! It's my first time at market....trying to find some comfy shoes, but the scooter sounds like a great option too!

  13. My sister and her quilting buddies are going to the quilt show (she went for the first time last year and came back with a suitcase full of goodies). I sent her your booth # so she'll look for you. Be prepared...those quilters get crazy when it comes to fabric!!! You'll be swamped with orders.

  14. I got to go to quilt market in the spring and it was super fun! I loved meeting all of the awesome designers. My sister was there too and she said there were very few women there without facial hair. Ha Ha.

  15. I'm looking forward to meeting awesome designers, too. And I'll be sure to wear a fake mustache and maybe just a hint of a beard so I can blend in.

  21. You should give Lyla a ring while you are in Houston - that's where they live now. Very cool that you're doing the show.

  22. Darn! I wish it were open to the public, I'd so be there...

  27. Just so no one goes crazy trying to figure out what the "mrbo" means at the end of my last comment... it means nothing... I was trying to type in the word verification and typed it in the wrong place. Silly me!

  28. Thanks, guys.

Rachel, I'd love to see Lyla, but I think I'm booked for the whole trip. But we're planning to go for Christmas to see A's sis, so maybe then.

Rhonda, I'm enjoying picturing Caroline zipping around the convention center, knocking old ladies out of her way. Don't spoil my fun.

Tranquility, I'm pretty sure I can take pix. I've seen many other photos.

    Jenean, tkyxc iuqllv ropkc mrbo.

And I'm not ending this comment with a smiley face like it appears I usually do. Yikes. That's a little embarrassing. I think I'm starting to take after my mum.

Seriously, Jess, this is fantastic news! Heartiest congratulations from the frozen north (yes, I *am* still north of you), and if you need a quick reference on the whole moustaches/beard thing, I can send you a recent photo.

  33. I have heard the Houston show is amazing! And it is in the same state as where I live... if only it weren't a 4.5 hour drive!

  34. Have fun at market...I bet you'll have a great time! Can't wait to read your "official" review when you get back!

  35. Oooh it will be SO much fun! My mom owned a fabric/quilting store when I was a little girl. I always had the best time going to the markets in Miami and Atlanta with her.

  36. Too bad you guys aren't staying around for the retail show as well. Fortunately I am going to market so I will definitely be checking out jcaroline's booth. See you there!

  37. Quilt Market is so much fun. You will have a blast. I have never been for my own booth or products but I have been a few times working for another company. It is a little overwhelming at first because it is huge but everyone is super friendly and easy to talk to. I will be there this weekend too! I will try to stop by to say hello.

  38. Being so close and I won't be able to see your booth. Boo-hoo. Good luck!
