Quiz: Donald Judd or cheap furniture?

"Who?" I asked myself. Never heard of this dude, but I bet I can tell the difference between furniture made by a "famous minimalist sculptor" and Walmart. Ready? Go! Um.... my result: 58%. Oops. Test yourself! And learn more about Donald Judd here.

  2. I scored 83%. Apparently I know cheap furniture!

  3. I scored 100% and completely surprised myself! The hardest one for me was the little birch stool -- I thought it was a trick! I don't know squat about fancy modern furniture or design-y stuff, really, but the criteria I used was that any piece that had asymmetry had to be DJ and that anything I thought maybe I'd seen before, or that looked too slick and shiny, had to be WalMart. Maybe I just got lucky!

  4. I'm not tellin' my score!! ;-\

But I do have to say that Donald Judd's chairs definitely do NOT look comfortable!

  5. i got 83%, but i have to say i mostly randomly guessed. there were a few that i knew, but for the most part i was just pulling it out of thin air!! i guess i'm a good guesser!

  6. I got the bare wood bed wrong. I'm no designer or artiste, but I just picked as "cheap" those things that I know I've seen in the Walmarts of my life, and those that seemed to show less imagination. I liked that dining table and chairs. Not my style, but I thought they were clever.

  8. wow! i got 100%! funny thing is that i thought some of it was ikea, which i guess is complimenting wal-mart! they are getting better i have to say, but i just hate going in there! its a ZOO!

  9. 1 wrong....

    Priceless?? Really??? hmmm.

  10. I scored 100%! I am married to a furniture designer so that helped a little.

  11. I scored 92% - not too bad considering I don't have a clue who that Donald guy is.

  12. One Wrong! :) it was the wood bed that got me - I should have known!the joins were good.

  13. I got 100%...though it looks like a few of us did...guess we know our furniture!

  14. Fun! I got all correct but the daybed also. It was the use of knotty pine that I think I associated with cheap... As someone who builds furniture, I do have to question whether any of Judd's chairs (particularly those slim little corner stools) would hold up...but some nice visual designs anyway.

It certainly speaks to the proliferation of modern design in the big box stores, eh? Not that that is a bad thing...

  15. I got 100%. But then it wasn't difficult. No one at Walmart would buy those square chairs that look incredibly uncomfortable. And no one at Walmart would buy a daybed that looks like it was made out of a crate.

Priceless? I'm not impressed with Donald Judd's furniture. They're not beautiful, they're not terribly functional, and they don't have much to say about form--or anything else. Or maybe I just don't know much about art.

  16. 67%. :-) apparently, genius is lost on me.

  17. I only missed the first one...it looked cheap to me...

    the others seemed pretty obvious...

I love these quizes, you do such a great job of finding fun ones

  18. 92%. Blam! (I missed that oversized $65K raw wood bed).

  19. whoa, i clicked on a whim and got 100%! never heard of donald judd and have set foot in a walmart exactly once, a decade ago. (but i admit to frequent trips to ikea).
    that was fun, thanks!

  20. Yikes! I got a 100%! And probably not because I know who Donald Judd is, either. I think it's only because I know the "walmart look". Oops!

  21. 92%, I missed the first one... I also know my cheap furniture I guess. I have been to IKEA one time too many...

  22. 83%. 65K for a bed? You must be joking. Save a rainforest or something.

  23. 83%, but by the look of all these comments I shouldn't be so proud!

  24. Ohh...98%! But I was just a good guesser. Any picture that looked like it was taken in a museum exhibit I guessed were his. Worked pretty well!

  25. I have heard of him, but I can't say that helped at all with the quiz. While I did get 100%, I can't say it had anything to do with familiarity with Judd. I studied medieval art, for goodness sake. But there was something obvious to me that was not obvious to my husband who scored 50%. This actually scares me.

  26. Haven't heard of DJudd either but I managed to get 100%. The styling of the photos was pretty telling.

  27. i got 100% too ;-) And I love your new fabrics!

  28. Another one here. Never heard of the guy, but got 100%. Best guesser ever!

  29. i totally got 100%! I'm glad the broke it down at the end, piece by piece, because a lot of my were, for sure, guesses, and now I'm interested in learning more about Judd. Some things I recognized from the IKEA cataloge.

  34. Wow. You guys are amazing. I prefer to think everybody else who hasn't commented sucked like I did. I will pretend that's the case.

  35. 100% woo hoo! And to think most of my furniture is under $50 from Craigslist ;)

  36. I happened to see your blog just newly, and I loved it. And this quiz thing is a very good idea. I got 83%, the raw bed and the raw table were what I got wrong, but anyway, as I can't afford a Donald Judd, I'll have to go back and make peace with cheap furniture...

  39. this is about the best example of how stupid and often times worthless the internet can be, why don't you just be serious and look at the furniture critically instead of making a joke of life and of yourself?
