You only need enough to wrap once around your accordian-folded stack with ends long enough to twist together. Maybe about 4 or 5 inches of wire. Or use string.

Tissue paper pom-poms

I love these! I made a whole bunch of them for my bridal shower to hang outside and they looked awesome. I made a bunch of tiny ones also (about 9" in diameter). They look so cute hanging from the inside of patio umbrellas :)

ReplyDeletei'm using mucho many of these for my backyard wedidng reception next june. question: do you buy your colored tissue paper somewhere special? i was maybe gonna order online but if theres'a place that carries specialty colors, i'd love to know about it. we're doing magenta, lime, and orange--a tropical theme since we're getting married in hawaii! (ha, tropical in minnesota).

ReplyDeleteThis paper is from Target. I bought a few packs of sheets. I think they're 18x26." I bet party stores have lots of colors. But maybe online is cheaper because you can buy in bulk?

ReplyDeleteOooh I did it too for my daughter's 2nd birthday, she came out in the morning and was very impressed with 'her flowers'. So much so that they're still around a month later- they are BIG. Much more sophisticated than streamers and balloons.

ReplyDeleteI actually bought the Martha Stewart kit at Michaels. I had never made pom poms and of course, I had to check out her merchandising. They are super easy, so now I'm wondering why they made a kit for it. The paper in her kit is 17" x 30" for the medium and 20" x 30" for the large, 11 sheets for each pom folded in 1 7/8" accordian folds. You're right, you only need 6" of wire. (My kit had already been robbed of its wire, so I used some 24 guage Colourcraft.)

I think Danny is the best dancer, followed by Sabra. I just wish they had a little more spark to their personalities. I want them to be more likeable and charismatic. But I like Sara and Neil MORE, and I don't know why. Lacey and Lauren overact. And that's my completely ignorant, uneducated opinion! :)

ReplyDeleteThese are great, we made them for my cousin's wedding. We had two days to plan. We could not find the color tissue paper we wantedso we bought toule and they came out beautiful even more elegant than the paper ones.

aren't the the most fun. last year I wrapped all my christmas presents in brown craft and got fun holiday tissue and made halfs for the tops of all the boxes. my family went NUTS! totally fun. LOVE your website by the way. I'm in bloggy love right now.

You can do it! (A tip: if they don't open up full enough for your taste, you can use one or two more sheets of tissue paper. Someone wrote me who was having trouble with that, and this solution worked.) You'll have fun. Congratulations on your marriage!

Another way you could do it (without Martha Stewart, if you felt like being more independently minded) is leaf through some of the pictures on http://www.gatheringguide.com/ec/party_favors_decorations.html and see what ideas you get. That's what I do and I've ended up with some great things.

ReplyDeleteWe are throwing a party to celebrate my daughter's 3rd birthday and my 27th (actually 36th) birthday and I was going to make fabric pom poms which I am sure that I had seen on your site (perhaps not) but when I found these I decided that they would look fab!
ReplyDeleteI have made three different sizes as a test run and I am so pleased with how they look. I now have a growing pile of ready prepared ones that we can fluff out on the day.
TIP: fold more than one layer of tissue paper at a time and separate them before wrapping the wire around the middle. That way you are cutting down on your folding time!
