Quiz: Which celebrity designer gets you?

I've posted a million design-related quizzes over the years. Here's a new one: Which celebrity designer gets you? Take the quiz at PopSugar to determine who's the best match for your preferences based on pictures you choose. The best part is, Emily Henderson— one of the possible answers— wrote a blog post about how she took the quiz herself wondering if she'd end up with Emily Henderson as the answer, and how it would affect her mental health if she didn't. Hilarious. See her thought process here.

I got Jonathan Adler, which didn't surprise me in the least.

Quiz: What's your design aesthetic?

This fun visual quiz at BuzzFeed will label your design aesthetic for you. Click your favorite image in response to questions such as "Where would you put that tattoo" and "You have 10 minutes at IKEA. What do you buy?" The quiz determined I have the aesthetic of a "Scandinavian Design Blog." What's your style? Take the quiz here.

A Victorian design quiz

I'm living in a house built just a couple years before Queen Victoria kicked the bucket. Clos’d this earthly scene. Laid her hoary head to rest beneath this mournful turf.* Do I know anything about Victorian homes? Almost nothing. So I took this quiz to confirm it.

But actually I did okay. A little knowledge of art history helped. The parlor vs. drawing room tripped me up, though. I still don't know the difference. I want to do some studying, not that I plan to go all Victorian in here. I think the queen would have enjoyed lounging in an orange Saarinen womb chair, if only it had been designed yet, right?

*For time-waster extra credit, read a collection of early American gravestone inscriptions compiled by Caitlin Hopkins. Fascinating. (Via 22 Words.)

Quiz: find your design style

I already know what decorating styles I like, but I find quizzes irresistible. I love making a selection from a handful of choices. I don't even care what the quiz result is; all the pleasure is in choosing my favorite thing from a bunch of options. (I also love making other people choose their favorite things from a bunch of options, building a profile in my mind, and then seeing if I can guess what they'll pick next. It's a fun game in furniture stores; try it sometime.) Anyhow, if you share my irrational delight in image selection, you might like the Find Your Style quiz at Sauder.

Quiz: What's your design alter-ego?

Design in a Nutshell is an entertaining series of short videos explaining design movements from the last 200 years. The animations are charming, and the narrator has a fabulous accent and says things like "al-yoo-min-ee-um." Watch the videos here to educate yourself about design history, or take a quiz to determine your design alter-ego.

Your alternate persona will be a mashup of notable names from the movement that best matches your style. I ended up a modernist, then took the quiz a few more times to see the other characters. The postmodernist dude (whose favorite color is Thursday) cracked me up.

Take a decorating style quiz

Just for fun, you can take a picture quiz at KraftMaid and they'll determine your decorating style. The celebrities you'd like to dine with also help indicate your style, apparently. I picked the Michelle Obama-Morgan Freeman set (so curious why those two are paired) and was diagnosed "Contemporary and Dynamic." I liked the description. Come on over, Morgan and Michelle.

Style quizzes: 80s hair, first ladies and more

Completely frivolous Friday afternoon fun: taking fashion quizzes at MyLifetime.com. Find out if you're a fashionista. Do you know what a minaudière is? I think I've seen them on petite girls at the gym, encased in stretchy yoga pants and bobbing up and down on the elliptical.

You might also want to know what your 80's hairstyle should be. Or which first lady is your style twin. Hilary Clinton, let's go shopping, girlfriend.

Quiz: What's your decorating style?

Better Homes and Gardens will attempt to diagnose your decorating style with this little quiz. My result was "Country French." No way, man. Maybe it's because I said I wanted to go to Paris. I had fun selecting a shoe (totally those striped flats), but I'd sell every one of those chairs at a garage sale immediately. Good luck!

What do you know about the Oscars?

If you're languishing at your desk watching the clock, try these Academy Award-themed quizzes. They'll waste time nicely until you're released for the weekend. Have a good one!

Quiz: Are you an introvert or extrovert?

How about a Friday quiz? Time magazine will determine whether you're an introvert or extrovert with this quiz. I answered yes to every single question and would have added exclamation points if possible. The quiz rightly suspects I am "likely to be an introvert." And I just learned the word "ambivert," so I'm smarter now, too. It's a good day. Test yourself right here.

Guess the movie from the object

Here's a Friday time-waster: guess which movie the illustrated object comes from at Famous Objects From Classic Movies. I was horrendous at this game. Maybe you'll have better luck! (Via It's a Small Web).

Update: I'm a moron. I just figured out you can guess letters one at a time like hangman; you don't have to know the entire title at first glance. This just got way more fun.

Quiz: Typography terms

Are you interested in typography? Fontroduction is a little website that teaches you basic terms and classifications. Test yourself with a quiz at the end. A note: Music plays when you complete the quiz, so if you're sneakily using this as a diversion at work, turn your sound off first!

Quiz: What's your signature?

As you know, I think quizzes are super entertaining—especially the ones based on pictures. So when I saw the Ethan Allen "What's Your Signature" test mentioned on Young House Love, I was compelled to take it. I hoped to fare a little better than the Youngsters, who got some funny results.

My signature was diagnosed as Elegance, "a seamless composition of quintessentially classic design elements... a cosmopolitan mix of ornate and clean woods paired with chic, enduring fabrics." Not a perfect fit, but what killed me were the room inspirations I was offered. Ethan Allen suggested I'd like this:

It made me laugh. I hate everything about it. Well, actually the window in the room is nice, if you remove the curtains, the artwork, the wallpaper, all the furniture, the rug, and the chandelier. But to each his own.

What my living room actually looks like:

See a couple more pictures in this post. Maybe I should add some paisley for increased Elegance. Give the quiz a shot and see if you do any better!

Quiz: HomeGoods Stylescope

A little fun for Friday: take a quiz from HomeGoods to help you determine your decorating style. Created by Deborah Needleman, former editor-in-chief of Domino magazine, the test also offers tips for how to fix up your space. I was deemed an "Earthy Modern" (nice) but my "Happy Home Colors" were all tints of lavender (no thanks). See how you turn out!

Back in action. And a quiz.

Our power returned today. While the idea of reading by candlelight sounds romantic and Abe Lincoln-esque, it's actually not that great. Neither are cold showers, spoiled food, or the inability to fire up my desktop computer to get any work done. Fortunately the HOW Creative Freelancers Conference kept me busy yesterday and today. It was excellent. Freelancers, I recommend it.

And now I leave you for the weekend with this interesting little quiz from the BBC that puts your eyeballs (and other senses) to the test. My eyeballs plan to enjoy some night-time electric lighting—how novel!

Quiz: Name the movie

If you like a challenge, try one of the Clockbuster movie quizzes from Veer, the stock photo company. Guess each movie title based on three visual clues. Don't try to form words from the pictures like I did—tie + man + plane = Tiemanplane? How is that a movie!? (It's not.) These aren't rebuses; just try to guess the story told by the photos. Good luck.

Quiz: Name the font

Speaking of fonts, if you'd like to take a crack at another identify-the-font game, try this one at I Love Typography. I did rather badly. FF Mt? Sounds like something a teenager would text, not a font. I need to get out more. IMHO.

Quiz: Guess the Oscars dress

I can't help it; I love the Oscars. Maybe because it's a good excuse to have a party, or maybe because I like looking at pretty dresses. If you're an awards show fashion buff, you might enjoy this Oscars dress quiz at the Sydney Morning Herald. Or take this quiz about Academy Awards fashion blunders at PopSugar.

Quiz: What's your interior design style?

Click on the pictures in this design quiz at Stylish Home to determine your decorating style. Brace yourself— the quiz promises to "delve into your design soul." The quiz "suspected" me to be Modern Eclectic, which apparently makes me soulmates with Andy Warhol, Scarlett Johannson, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Okay.

Quiz: Find your color personality

Real Simple offers this quiz to determine what your color choices say about you. Unfortunately I ended up a "water personality" who is supposed to decorate with blue because I am "steadfast and sympathetic." Crud. Guess I should aim for flighty and insensitive next time.
