New work for Renaissance Ribbons

A fun surprise came in the mail today— a box of my latest designs for Renaissance Ribbons. I had a catalog of options they picked from, and then they requested a few color changes and a new design to add to the bunch, school buses. It's lots of fun working with those folks; they are delightful.

The tickets are my favorite. I amused myself by making the numbers tiny jokes that nobody is ever going to notice. 8675309. 5882300.

The stamps are fun.

And this zigzag stuff makes me happy.

These are now posted in the Renaissance Ribbons wholesale site for shops to order, and they'll appear on Renaissance's retail site in several weeks where you can buy them by the yard.

Arrow iPad case

Alex has taken over my old iPad case, so Mum sewed me a new one from Orchid Arrows. The pattern is Erin Erickson's Gadget Guard, and I love it. Nicely padded with Soft & Stable, but not bulky. A perfect fit for my antique iPad.

The pleated pocket on the front can hold a charging cord, pens, small notebook, cash, love letters, or photos of your hamster.

The pattern has options for putting the zippers on the long or short side, leaving the pocket off, and sizing it for any device up to one inch thick.

Of course I requested orange zippers to go with the purply-pink arrows, but the turquoise zips Mum put on her own case with the navy background look almost as fabulous.

P.S. I just learned that Erin's patterns are all 25% off through Sunday, May 11. Correction: Monday, May 12. Go shopping!

Fabric sighting: Under the Weather bags

I just spotted these cool Commuter Bags in a couple of my Outside Oslo prints; the red one is Sticks and the gray one is Frond. Great lining colors! Find these and other accessories for cyclists here at Under the Weather, based in Ontario.

Fabric sighting: store window

I stole this photo from The Needle Shop's Facebook page and shamelessly pasted it here. There's a rule that when you're excited to see your name on a store window, you have to show everyone you know and lots of people you don't.

The shop is promoting my mini home decor fabric collection, Arrow. The print is inspired by airport signage; I had travel on my mind. (I made Arrow a logo and marketing materials, too, just for fun.)

I expect there will be more Arrow sightings here in the next couple weeks since I can think of a few nifty projects people are working on— I'd love to share the before-and-afters, the tutorials, and finished products. They might inspire DIY projects of your own using your favorite fabrics. Onward and upward!

New Jessica Jones fabric: say hello to Arrow!

Today The Needle Shop has released a new print I designed for them: Arrow, available in three colorways. It's simple and graphic and geometric and cool. Let's make it the new chevron, y'all! Shop for it here.

This fabric is 7 oz. cotton home decor canvas, good for accessories and furnishings. Or you can get crazy like Rachel of The Needle Shop did and whip up a blazer. It would make a smashing shift dress, too. And that suitcase is killing me. I've begged Rachel for a tutorial, so stay tuned.

These prints will also be available in laminated canvas in two weeks. Think makeup bags, placemats, beach totes, wipeable chair seats and all sorts of goodies.

Mum made a quick reversible tote. Love it! It's Tanya Whelan's Flea Market Bag pattern, but with the strap lengthened and the body size adjusted a bit. A great bag for beginners if you want to give it a whirl.

Buy Arrow right here by the yard, or get it wholesale here if you're a fabric shop or manufacturer.

We're dreaming of printing other colorways, too. What combos would you like to see?

Meaty steak and bacon dog collars

Aroo Studio hired me to create a custom meat-themed design for their line of dog collars and leashes last year. I threw in some bacon, ham, steak, and a drumstick, and here's the result. These cute samples arrived today.

Adjustable collars come in small, medium, and large, and matching leashes are available. Color choices are yellow with red, or aqua with orange. Everything is handmade with 100% hemp webbing, which is washable and gets softer with age.

Get your pup some of this meaty goodness right here at Aroo Studio.

My mug in a magazine

A new issue of CS Interiors is out, and I'm very honored to have my wallpaper design for Chasing Paper featured. See the digital edition, page 43. There I am, perched on a really cool chair and photographed by Krystina Archer. (Go see her conceptual portraits; her work is gorgeous.)

I take secret delight in knowing that the shirt I'm wearing in this Modern Luxury publication cost me $15 from JCPenney. And for anyone curious, I am not sure who Charlie Hopper is, mentioned in the article as an inspiration for my work. Perhaps a distant relative of Charley Harper, an illustrator I admire. Details, schmetails. I'm just thrilled to be in the magazine. Thank you to CS Interiors!

New ribbon designs for dog collars

Bella Bark & Meow enlisted me to whip up some geometric patterns for their latest dog collars and leashes. My favorites are the bow tie-ish triangles and the circular pattern that looks subliminally like martini glasses. These are available here in four sizes.

I spotted a couple other collars with ribbon I'd designed over at Design Sponge the other day. I am taking the dog collar world by storm, people! Ironically, I've never owned a pup, though about 10,328 of them live in my neighborhood.

Random story: although my city has posted signs prohibiting "dog nuisances," there are still folks who can't be bothered to pick up their pets' poo from the grass in front of our building. The other day an anonymous person printed up a small, sarcastic sign that read, "Thanks for being a great neighbor!" and staked it in the lawn next to a pile of doodoo. A friend in the building said he was instantly tempted to make an even tinier sign, mounted on a toothpick, saying, "You're welcome!" And then I had a glorious vision of a long line of signs poked into the grass, each smaller than the next like Russian nesting dolls. In an increasingly passive aggressive, tiny conversation, eventually so small only ants could read it. So awesome.

Printable Father's Day bottle tags

I was admiring the patterns on Penguin Books scores from 1949 and decided to design a Father's Day printable in a similar style. Download, print, and cut out these bottle tags, then hang them on your pop's favorite pop. Or his favorite whiskey, or wine, or lemonade. Sign your name on the tag or leave it blank if your handwriting is too horrendous.

Download the PDF here.

Then get matching greeting cards right here.

Removable wallpaper from Chasing Paper

I'm pleased to announce a new print on a new product: removable wallpaper! Chasing Paper has just launched my Sunburst print in nine— that's right, NINE— colors in their shop.

I'm super excited. This stuff is like regular wallpaper, except it's self-adhesive and no paste is required. It's low-tack, so peeling it off won't harm your paint. (Or your 70s wood paneling.) Renters, rejoice! It's repositionable, so if you stick a piece on crooked or start putting it up on one wall and then decide it would look better somewhere else, no problem. Just move it. It's not contact paper; it's actually printed fabric and has a visibly woven texture so it looks richer than a wall decal. And it's wipeable!

Chasing Paper's wallpapers come in 2 ft. by 4 ft. panels, so you can buy a little for a small project, or a lot for a big project. Cover an accent wall. Or the inside of a bookshelf, or the top of a TV tray.

There's a bit of satin sheen to the paper.

I covered a plain white cabinet in my dining room.

Since I'm always skeptical about claims of durability, I decided to find out how easy this stuff is to clean. Let's pretend you accidentally throw some chocolate sauce at your wall.

It wipes off easily, leaving the wallpaper unharmed.

Let's pretend you accidentally run your wallpaper under some water. No problem. The ink doesn't run and you can dry it right off.

You know what that means. I have to put a wallpaper backsplash behind my sink.

Buy this design from Chasing Paper right here, or browse their other fun patterns!

iPhone and iPad cases for Uncommon

I'm delighted to announce that Uncommon, a manufacturer of protective cases for Apple devices, is now offering Jessica Jones patterns on their products! If you've seen my fabrics, you'll recognize a couple familiar prints in there. Cases are available in the Uncommon online store right here.

The coolest part is that you can customize your own device case: pick from a variety of iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch models, and then choose a design to place on the case. You can scale the print up or down, move it around, and even add text if you're feeling crazy.

One of these might make a nice Mother's Day gift or a present for somebody. I mean, can your phone really have too many outfits? It's like shoes or scarves. The more the merrier! See all six prints at Uncommon.

Dog collars and leashes at JCP

Here's a bit of design work from months ago. I just got samples in the mail. My client L.L. Lily was approached by JC Penney to produce some exclusive dog collar sets, and I was contracted to create designs for the woven ribbon that goes on them. "Something Ellen deGeneres would like" was the instruction. (Apparently Ellen would have a hand in picking the designs, being the official JCP spokesperson.) Um... I have no idea what Ellen's taste in dog collars is. And I have no idea if she ever saw them, but these two options were selected: retro-style greetings and a basic stripe.

The "Hey" design is my fave. It's what I hope dogs are thinking when I pass them on the sidewalk. Instead of, "I would bite you if only my leash was long enough."

The collar and leash sets come with 6' leashes and adjustable collars in sizes S (9"-15"), M (12"-18"), and L (14"-21"). Rumor had it they would be in 600 JCP stores as of Nov. 1. I see they're available online, too.
