Displaying family photos

Domino has a gallery of ideas for displaying family photographs. Here's my favorite: picture frames duct-taped together to make one big piece of art. See how they added solid color blocks and nature shots to balance the people-pictures. Love it! You could use something like these cheapies from IKEA, I bet. And speaking of IKEA, I'm reminded of this cartoon. Heh heh.

Yeah, I like this one the best too. And love that pillow! I just spray painted some of my frame collection from the yard sales, now I learned a lot of ways to arrange them. Thanks.

Ya know...I generally HATE multi photo frames because it's too much to look at. But I agree with you - add a block of solid color or some simple flower or something. MUCH better. Good eye. I never really knew the solution for that.

Great idea! I'd paint the frames I guess.

I agree with vacuum queen. Too many pictures of people is overwhelming. It looks great balanced out like that. Gorgeous!

I love this! My younger daughter has been complaining that there are no framed pictures of her on the walls...only snapshots stuck up here and there. Thanks for the inspiration.

What a wonderful way to display photos! This looks like one big installation, as opposed to single pictures -- inspiring indeed!

I remember when this story ran. I loved it so much. I bookmarked a ton of photos for the idea and then searched and searched for the perfect frames at Ikea and all these chain stores. I know it sounds insane but I couldn't find them anywhere! Or maybe I was just too picky. But I completely adore this idea and may need to resurrect the project. So fun, and you can swap out the photos from time to time, too!

wow what a great idea, I never would have thought of that! I just got a whole bunch of photos from europe printed and have been trying to decide how to frame them, looks like my staff discount at Ikea might come in handy again :P Love the cartoon too, not exactly how I remember my interview though hehe

I *love* this idea. I'm envisioning pictures of the kids interspersed with their artwork, which I'll change out from time to time.

i love this. love this!
i'm imagining it not being quite so much a grid but continually adding on horizontally and vertically. i have a wall in our new home that i was hoping to create a "photo wall" but was dreading all the measuring and nonsense to get it all straight and even...now there's no worries. though i may use a serious stapler instead of duct tape, or something to make it feel a little more long-lasting...
the 4x6 size (for regular photographs) is only 1.99 for a set of 3 from ikea, which makes it quite doable.
thanks!

I fell in love with this idea when I saw it in Domino. I have been collecting frames from my local K-Mart - 8x10 white Home Essential frames for $2.50 apiece - and hope to get to 24 for one large installation. They also have smaller sizes. Now, time to organize some photos...

That almost seems like a nightmare to hang. I like it so much, but how to you manage to hang them all that perfectly close to each other?
