Quiz: Art or Crap?

I bought a set of colored Sharpies a long time ago for some project or other, but now I can't remember what for. I pulled them out just now and doodled a bit, which was nice and therapeutic. But I'm still trying to think of a way to make doodles into something decent. I'll keep working on that...

I love the paisley - and vote for "art"! this could be a great design for embroidered felt something? the colors (and maybe the design a bit, too) remind me of mexican folk tiles.

Definitely art! I was going to suggest embroidery too--the corner of a pillowcase maybe?

I agree with the comment that doodling is therapeutic. I've been experimenting with Sharpies too and I kinda like the soft feathery edge they make on my paper. Your doodles are cool... keep going!

Jumping on the bandwagon - definitely embroidery designs

Definitely art! I'd love those swirls and colors embroidered on pillowcases, growing out of the corner of a purse, or blooming from the pocket of a pair of jeans.

great! if u don't find something to do with it... would you consider letting me use it on a website design?

Art! What a great fabric pattern for a table cloth or skirt that would make! Also concur with the embroidery verdict for pillows or napkins... On another note, way to go with taking time to doodle & zone out! We could all probably use more of that 

I vote art. I love drawing with Sharpies, esp. on good drawing paper. I had a character design class where we a weekly required session of life drawing, and I always used my Sharpies. Unfortunately I don't have those pages scanned, but a few of my other sketches are done with Sharpies -- you can check them out on my illustration site www.nealteak.com... I think this one is the most successful. I love the inherent lack of control caused by the bleeding edges. I dunno. But I vote art -- doodling is the gateway to great things!

Thanks, guys.
Kate! It's you! I love GD bar. And your sketches, too! Thanks a lot for the links. I'm so inspired. Wow, i guess Sharpies CAN make art!

As for embroidery, uh, I'm helpless. I've only tried it once (in a past post) and that was totally simple and I still struggled. But I can see what you guys mean about the design being well-suited.

Shaz, I'm still hoping to turn this paisley theme into something or other, but if I can't find a use for it, I'll let you know. Oh. Except I can't, because I have no idea who you are and don't have a way to contact you later. :)

Ooh, pretty. I could see it printed onto transfer paper and ironed on to the bottom of a white t-shirt. It would work as a standalone design in the corner, or as a border all around. I was also going to suggest embroidering it onto the leg of some cropped pants, but I see you're not an embroiderer (me neither!)

I am totally into doodles. I have a blog about doodling (www.doodles.typepad.com). I think doodles are the drawing version of dreams.
Oh, and I vote ART.

Absolutely art!

You need to make them into Notecards and sell them on etsy.

Quilt pattern just waiting to get out, I reckon...

right... ok it's info@adventures-in-motherhood.com :)
I'd likely make it into a free theme, with credit to you, of course.

Art - have you ever doodled a whole 8.5x11 page? It's beautiful (or something like that)!

I'm gonna toss my vote for paper sculpture. could be really cool....

Should you ask???Like anything you would do would be crap! Puleeze!

Then I won't submit it to the REAL Art or Crap Quiz for them to use as an example. :)

Thanks for helping cure my inferiority complex.

Sheesh, Jess, like you could have an inferiority complex when it comes to this sort of stuff? That's my job.

It's a doodle. And a darned creative doodle at that! The possibilities (as remarked above) are endless! Go nuts with this!

That's funny...the past few days I've been doodling paisleys too. I was doing it at work (art teacher at b&g club) one day and the kids saw me...now everyday they want me to draw some more for them!

you should use those sharpies on Shrinky-Dinks! They're so fun and amazing. I posted about them here:
