Monochromatic meal

Here's Easter dinner at our place. We made Cornish hens (first time experiment) and had friends over. After putting out the food, it occurred to me that everything was the same color, except for the green beans down at the end. This is probably a culinary no-no. Alex kindly helped me cook and set the table, leading to a debate about HOW one properly arranges place settings. I have a nagging suspicion this isn't it, but none of us cared. I bet I could learn a lot if I spent some time browsing here at hostesswiththemostess.com, which just launched. The Hostess blog is great, too.

fork has 4 letters, same as left. spoon and knife have five leters, same as right. (knife sits closest to the plate with the blade pointing in.) simple, huh?

While I agree with your above poster (in the most tactful manner, of course) regarding table settings, I would point out that your blog is composed in a monochromatic office, is it not? You say so yourself!

Besides, the dinner itself looks great! Beats what my family did this year all hollow!

it looks like a beautiful meal! well done!

my mom once cooked a dinner of white fish, white rice, and cauliflower. it was almost impossible to find the food on the white plate!

I love the colour of your plates, I'm in love with green+blue together :D And I think your food looks delicious, yet it might be the same colour :P Don't think it matters much - it's Easter!

I see LOTS of color. Your place-settings are very vibrate. BTW, I love the personal photo addition to your blog. It has such a humanizing effect. TFS

Is the photo flipped around? It looks like a mirror image of a correct place setting.

ros - that's exactly what I was thinking. In addition to switching the fork and knife (and napkin), the wine glass should sit on the right. But it's still lovely.

I just wanted to say hi. I discovered your blog through blik and I love it!

Nope, the photo's not flipped. Funny! That's how it was. I guess we're dyslexic.

Tammi, that's a GREAT tip for remembering how you're supposed to set a table. Mental note made. In the past I'd have to look it up on the internet because I couldn't seem to remember. And this time I just didn't have the time.

And I'm so glad you think the photo addition is okay, Angie. I'm always curious to see the people behind the blogs I like, so I thought maybe it would be a good idea to put my picture on here. But after I did it, I felt horribly self-conscious and wondered if it was a bad idea. Thanks for the positive reinforcement.

Hey Jess - this is your new neighbor Penny! (827) I was wondering...how did you cook the cornish hens? Thanks...and I vote you do sell on etsy.

Hi Penny!!! I used this recipe from food.com. The hens didn't get quite as flavorful as I'd hoped, but they were cooked the right length of time and still tasty. I wanted more rosemary and garlic flavor to come through. Oh well. They were cute little birds.
