Make envelopes out of patterned paper

Here's a blank envelope template you can download. (Either print it on plain cardstock to cut out as a template for tracing around, or print it directly on the back of your patterned paper like I did here). Of course, you can also take apart any envelope, flatten it out, and use that as a template, too.

This envelope, after folding, is 5.75 x 4.5 inches. It holds a 5.5 x 4.25 enclosure (a quarter of a letter-sized sheet).

Well.... thank you! This actually comes in the right time for me -- I think I'll use it for my wedding invitations. Thanks again! :)

My friend in Arizona mailed the paper to me as part of a present, so I don't know where it's from! It was a 12" square sheet, like scrapbookers use.

And I've added the envelope dimensions to the post.

I just found your site through clicking peoples "Blogs I Read" links. I have no idea where I just came from, but I have to say your post on making an envelope is timely for me. I was just about to do a Google search. Thanks so much for offering it up!

The paper if from American Crafts. I know because I work for them. :) Very cool products.

Thanks for making these available. They are wonderful! I am going to print one out and use it. This is a wonderful idea. I used to do something similar back in the olden days but we only used magazine pages to make the envelopes.... and they were not really sturdy enough. I could make up a batch of these and give them as a gift set...

Cool!

Thank you so much for this! My kids got sick and I couldn't go out and buy the pretty envelope I wanted for our cash gift. This was PERFECT!

I feel that handmade, with a few 'flaws' like hand scissor-cut almost-perfect edges make a more 'personal' feel. This was extremely important because a few days ago, a dear friend of mine, her name is Rebecca, her dog died. She is 11 years old, and I wanted to make her something special, so I printed this template onto my scrapbook paper and then cut it out. I made a card for the inside, too. This was a great way for me to show how much I really did care, as they had this dog for 14 years, and she is only 11. I really encourage this because it can be made out of anything, possibly even fabric. A good template, Jess, I love it!

Aw, thanks for sharing that story. Poor Rebecca. (Poor Moochie, too.) I love knowing somebody out there benefitted from this, even a little bit.

Don't we all need to take a second and make this envelope? What a magnificent thing in a time of e-mails. How excited would you be to receive a splendid envelope with a little hand-written trinket inside? Me too. So do it and make someone's day. I'm gonna!

it's great, thanks for this and many more tutorials or links :)
nice blog, greetings!

Thanks. I make a lot of pressed flower cards using stock from the craft stores. Now I can make 2 cards from a letter size page of card stock and follow your directions to make an envelope.

Thanks for this! I decreased its size so I could use it to make mini envelopes. I want to use them to put business cards and coupons into when I send out packages. :)

THANK YOU!!
This is exactly what I was looking for. After checking about 15 websites for printable envelopes, I found yours.

I made a card as a 'Thank You' to the mailman, but needed an envelope.

Be assured that I will be using this one many, many time.
